Way better than the virtual box addition method and it worked perfectly. Great video

Excellent video 👍
What is distinct about this video compared to another is:
xrandr --output which flips the resolution real-time.
Kindest regards, neighbours.

Solved my problem. I'm using a Lenovo Legion 5 15ITH6H with a Dual Boot with Windows 11. I only use Windows 11 to game, so I rarely get to Windows, but Windows seems to be killing my Ubuntu 22.04 LTS somehow, if that makes sense.

Not so long ago, I had a serious issue. Normally, I use my Ubuntu as a workspace so I connect an external display via HDMI, but when I game on Windows I normally don't use the other monitor since it's 60 HZ and it's junk compared to the built-in 165 Hz monitor of the laptop. But one day I got to Windows using both displays, and for whatever reason Windows made that "driver updated/installed" noise, but I ignored it and continued gaming. So when I got back to Ubuntu, the second monitor wasn't getting detected. I researched on AskUbuntu (I'm not a Linux pro, this is why I chose Ubuntu over other distros, because it has a huge community and it helps in this occasions) and I tried almost everything. I messed up real good, I followed an answer telling me to uninstall Intel drivers, so I did, and when I restarted the built-in display didn't even work and it only worked on the external monitor, but even then, WiFi wasn't working which was a big mess. Hopefully, I have an USB with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS in it with me so it wasn't a big problem to recover it.

However, it happened again about two weeks ago, same thing, got to Windows, you know the rest. This time, I didn't uninstall Intel drivers but I purged my Linux NVIDIA drivers so I could manually install an stable version that works for me (525.60.11). Everything got back as expected but I couldn't choose between 60 and 165 HZ anymore, which annoys me since Linux it's not really that battery-friendly with Laptops and I don't really care about the refresh rate if I can save some battery. I researched again and I found some post about modifying EDID on Windows, but I found that it was a bit overcomplicated, and at the end I found this video.

OSTechHelp video 'How to add custom screen resolution permanently on Ubuntu | Fix missing resolution in display Linux' did the trick for me to made it permanent again.

it is crazy that 4 years later after your video, people are still not able to use some default resolutions without doing some hocus pocus stuff in the terminal.. mine only has 3 resolutions that work on my tv 4k, 1080 or 720. no 1440. Problem is scaling.. Seems impossible to get it right everywhere so i want to try 1440p. but this xrander thing always gives errors

Nice video! I was hoping it would fix my problem, but it doesn't seem to. I could add the resolution just fine, but trying to change resolution at all just won't stick. I can select the resolution I want to use, I hit apply and for a brief second it changes resolution, then it just reverts back. Running Debian with KDE on VirtualBox. Any clue what might be wrong?
