Hello, Katharine.😊 Aubergine was completely new to me. I understand you also say Tube and lift instead of subway and elevator and More. I often listen to news both in British English and American English. They do sound quite different in terms of not only accents and pronunciation, but also the usage of words and so on, which I find interesting and tricky as well. Plus, I always try to stress consonant sounds when speaking in English because we usually don't have to in Japanese.
