I took my truck to bell tire alignment, 2003 f150 the inexperienced kid had it on the rack for over 2 hours, he was hitting the ctrl arm bushing with a 6lb hammer and prybar to get them to move and couldn't cause he didn't realize the camber plates were holding it from moving. The guy damaged my ctrl arm bushings and threw away my camber plates they stated they didn't need to be on there. I got 2 of the 3 plates back. The crtl arm on driver's side is way pushed in compared to he didn't even move the pass side at all. They had to give me my money back and buy me a new ctrl arm. Watch these tire shops that you don't have inexperienced people doing alignments risking your life on the road. Bell Tire Garden City MI. Check out the review.

To use this tool the adjustment screw is the zero bubble pre set up on vehicle. You cannot tell what adjustment you have on vehicle if you start off with a tool that is not level or set too negative or positive from start. You can use a carpenters level set this on top and do zero adjust as reference, then adjust wheels according. And you need to have tool top of rotor, right above center spindle to be exact as wheel turned will change reading. Then end bubble also needs to be center on tool to get best results. Before this I used carpenters level with angle iron on edge of rim but with no readings it only told how much off center bubble was. If tires wearing on inside you have to adjust top tires out to get positive camber if too much negative. Or .5 negative as specs are, from 3 or 4 negetive replacing top control arms on rear with turnbuckle type that have 4 degrees negative and positive adjustment. Have a set of these and been doing checks and adjustments.

Ive had the tool for over a year. Since then I've been involved with wirking on my truck alignment after three shops messed up my alignment, one time they left screws loose.
I am just about done reolacing the entire suspension and steering in a 2001 PT and will use it to get the alignment close.
I still havent found a shop that I trust and my two vehicles have brand new tires, so I really need them aligned right before they wear diwn wrong.

Same tool I bought and love it, your video refreshed my memory of how to do it because I haven't done caster camber in over 20 years.

There is a reason caster/camber gauges don't cost $15. A digital level works just as well. The vehicle still needs to be on a level surface. ANY difference in height of the wheels on the ground will induce error in the results. We do race cars like this and I do my street cars, but never in the grass or dirt.

Checking your vehicle with a level. Will only ensure that the body is level. The suspension will hang in any low spots under the wheels. Those gauges are also inaccurate for alignment as they are only made for mechanics to get the suspension back in the same position after replacing parts. If you want to use this gauge for camber measurements put a level vertical in a vise with the levels bubble in the centre. Then hold the magnet of the gauge against the side of the level and zero the gauge with the adjuster. Then the gauge will be calibrated.

Perfect tutorial thank you I use the string method and didn't get it, I then measured the front and the rear tread groove line on my front tires, in order to get the Camber I used my torpedo level on the outside of my brake disc.
I'm satisfied until I can afford an alignment.

Thanks for the video!
P.S. I put a piece of painter's tape over the magnet to minimize any possible scratch.

With a solid axle rear you should set the tool to 0 so that it reads the correct camber when you move to the front. Since you "zeroed" it to .5 on the back, .5 on the front means you actually have 0 camber.

I’m confused. If you adjust the gauge to zero without knowing what the camber currently is then how do you know what you end up with? You only know the difference between the wheels. You need to take the gauge and stick it to the side of your tool chest or other perfectly vertical surface let’s say. Then make sure it is 0 and then put it on your wheels. If you zero it on the wheel and you already have -2. Then you are going to adjust for -2 more and give yourself -4. You say you know that the wheel is -.5 from the factory but you don’t know that it is still at -.5.

Careful with those cheap camber gauges. The one I got scale indicated plus or minus 5 degrees. When compared to a known good gauge the graduations should have been plus or minus 3 degrees.
