The suspense was killing me, but the end was really shocking.

Shock absorbers do not transfer load to the opposite side of the vehicle in a turn. Shock absorbers, more properly called dampers, do one thing and one thing only; they resist/damp suspension movement. This prevents uncontrolled wheel travel due to springs (including tires) storing and releasing energy, and controls vertical body movement.

Great content Scotty. If you get the opportunity to expand on schocks, could you also talk about off-road setups like: progressive springs, long travel setups, remote reservoir shocks, hydraulic bump stops, and also what is involved in maintenance of these more advanced setups? I found these topics to be a bit complex and there is not much information out there where it’s explained in your helpful and straightforward manner. Thanks!

Thank you Doctor Scotty you are absolutely fantastic at teaching, I'm glad you decided to become a gifted mechanic instead of using your PhD in an academic setting..we lucked out and you are an incredible teacher

You’re normally such a Goofball Scotty, but you proved to me you’re also a science teacher in this video. Thanks for showing the difference between dual and single tube shocks. Finding the best shocks for your ride is always a gamble. Too rough or too soft. It’s always a risk of having to try a couple types to get your personal taste dialed in. I just put KYB ExcelG on my jeep and am already wondering what Bikstein 5100 or KYB Gas A Just would have felt like.

I can guarantee you that about 2% of your average drivers actually replace their shocks every 50K miles!
