At the age of 37 my body went haywire in a lot of ways. I didn’t realize until later that it was the start of peri. Simultaneously, three things happened with my labs. My cholesterol was suddenly too high, my vitamin d levels were significantly below normal, and my A1C was borderline pre diabetic. I really wish my doctor had recognized what that meant. It would have saved me years of suffering and trying to figure it out on my own.

After three gynecologists I finally got estrogen & progesterone. I take both orally. I am in a trial study group. Almost had to beg for help! Feeling 100% better!

I saw major cholesterol change when I never had cholesterol issues before and my diet hadn't changed. After taking HRT for 1 year and no other changes in diet and exercise, my Total Cholesterol dropped 40 points.

I'm 61 and went through menopause at 47. My doctor wouldn't prescribe or recommend hrt. He basically said suck it up you'll get through it. I suffered for years. Too late for me but what a service you're providing women about to go through menopause. I wish I knew I had a choice.

So interesting. I just turned 50, and my cholesterol is sky high. Maddening to have my doctor direct me to "exercise and eat less red meat" when I am extremely fit, exercise daily, and am obsessively nutrition-concious! 😒

I'm a carnivore, I'm 51. I had no idea I was in menopause until my Dr tested me 😁 I have no symptoms, and my tests all come back normal, and optimal!!

Second month on HRT feeling like 36 @50.. I didn't wait for my gyno or anyone else. I went online though a doctor Winova started while I waited for my insurance to send me to a gyno. She asked me if I had bp, diabetes, cholesterol etc. I don't and I exercise and am lean and strong. She had no choice but to try to scare me about risks..lol.. I told her if I don't go on therapy I will have diabetes, cancer, bp, cholesterol and other issues. She couldn't say a thing but RX me.I let her know I had a background in Sports Nutrition and I am vegan.. I walk the talk always..

My understanding is that cholesterol is beneficial to the brain. So it makes sense, to me, that it would go up when hormone levels are low. To protect the brain.

OMG - I am in menopause since I am 22 due to an ovarian cancer related hysterectomy; since then my cholesterol is elvated, and none of my many gyns and doctors in the past 36 years have made the connection to the estrogen deficiency (I am not on hormone subsidisation). Incredibly interesting; thanks for sharing this!!!

Can’t do HRT. On vitamin D 2000 units a day trying to walk more everyday cut out sodas, mine has dropped, the dr wanted me in Statins I’m like oh no thank you because I read that book Grain Brain after another ER dr told me about before making a decision, I will never go on statins, never had a cholesterol problem before Menopause. Thank you for speaking Truth❤. Drs are very dismissive when you bring this up and are obviously not well educated in Menopause. I do use vaginal estradiol that helps since all they wanted to do was give me antibiotics month after month for supposedly UTIS. Also take a women probiotic. Best wishes to all

So what does one take to assist with estrogen deprivation?

Yes aside from all the devastation menopause caused on my gut, my eyes, vagina, pelvic floor, joints i also got the cholesterol and higher A1c ( insulin resistance). Now on HRT vit D etc to bring it down. Also every week i find my body is melting into cellulite and crapey skin. I had very little gluten and sugar all my youth and lifted weights 4 x a week. Not spared. Menopause is destructive

I stopped getting periods at 38 and put on 50+ lbs. At 42, I got bloods done to address the fatigue. I had high cholesterol, high blood sugar, high blood pressure, low vitamin d and low iron. I feel a lot better since being put on HRT

Can you please research the carnivore diet and the fact that high cholesterol is good for us in the absence of inflamation caused by sugar and carbs. This way of life is highly beneficial and women should know its an option. Cholesterol is not bad!

So what’s the solution or what you recommend?

My female Dr made the link… she said I think your cholesterol will drop now that you’re on the Estrogel. My hormones are fluctuating wildly though. So she said to take it when I need it, and not when my boobs hurt (because at that point I don’t).

I’ve also found that eating a more keto diet (much more meat than my previous plant based diet), seems to stall menopause symptoms, and more carbs brings them on full force… all those menopause symptoms flood back.

I am so grateful for you, Dr. Mary. Just for the simple fact what you're teaching us is so valuable. I know we live in different states. You cannot be my doctor but I'm learning a lot from you and I have been on this menopausal journey for a while and gut health was the first thing that really went South for me after my hysterectomy and it makes total sense.
