I use fish emulsion as my main water-soluble fertilizer. It is a great foliar fertilizer. This is how I make it, how often I apply it, and use it on different vegetable garden crops. I cover the details you might not find elsewhere, like how much to pour on a plant.

Whenever we have a crawfish boil, I don't use salt the first time I purge each batch and capture the water in a bucket after I drain the cooler. My plants seem to love it.

I used fish emulsion for the first time last year. I don't think I'll ever do a garden without it now. Thanks for telling people about it!

I tried Neptune a few years ago. I really didn’t notice much difference. Plus, it is very expensive. Starting last fall, I have been using liquid gold. It is free and it has made a big difference. I also have a homemade barrel composter that works great too. We will see how spring vegetables do. So far so good. I have been doing monthly videos of my progress. Thanks for all the tips.

Thank you Gary for your knowledge. You have encouraged me to plant more than 5 containers! I'm using your links on Amazon and also visit your store. Just want you to know you have helped me in so many ways to expand and feel more confident in the garden. My cucumbers are only 1/2 inch long right now, but better than last year. I'm in 7a and in NM we have 95-100 degree temps. The shade cloth I ordered should make a difference and using the fish emulation for the first time today. Hope my cats don't go crazy! Thanks again!

Due to career moves, I've started a lot of gardens. Got to one place in late fall. It was a spec house finished just as the mortgage crisis hitting. The owner couldn't sell it, so he leased it. The yard looked bad. All I could do was put down compost, cover with leaf mulch & wait until spring. I always plant a crop of simple greens to see how any new bed does. I always felt silly because I never had a bed fail at greens. Well, that one did. The contactor must have used crap top or even subsoil to finish the yard. I had to shoot synthetic N through to save the greens crop while piling on organic matter since the local Ag Co-op had no FE available. I finally found some, but it hardly mattered. It would have taken at least 2 years+ to rehab that soil. If you don't have N in the soil & little to no soil structure, you're at zero. The rhizome grass even struggled. Fortunately, we could walk away in late summer & weren't stuck with the house.

hi Gary, your vegetables are very healthy looking they are very green it looks good to eat already. Thanks for sharing and teaching us how to economize. I learned a whole lot from your gardening videos. I am in zone 5b west Michigan and we have 3 days colder weather and freezing temp. at night and supposedly in the coming days we will hit in the 60’s and 70’s i don’t think i will set out my tomatoes yet till 2nd week of May. We have a roller coasters weather here in Mi. Patiently waiting for that set weather to plant. God Bless! p.s I too loved and used fish emulsion(alaska 5.1.1) always have one available each year.
