Darth Vader's iconic bass-tone voice could have been very different. David Prowse, who physically portrayed Vader, originally voiced the character during filming. However, his English West Country accent didn't convey the fear George Lucas intended. To achieve the desired effect, James Earl Jones was hired for additional dialogue recording, giving Vader his now-famous booming voice. Jones humbly asked to be uncredited, believing his contribution was minimal. This decision changed drastically as his voice became an integral part of Darth Vader's menacing presence in the "Star Wars" saga.

Iirc he threatened not to return in empire strikes back because lucas was going to underpay him because the film cost more to make. Every other returning actor would exceed or maintain their pay for esb, but james earl jones was going to take a pay cut. He threatened to walk and then george lucas quickly turned around and changed his mind. We almost had a completely different voice for “no, i am your father”
