Scar was truly inexcusable in the remake. The whole point of Scar’s story arc was to be a megalomaniac dictator and Disney was scared to portray that in the remake.

He gets a pass for life because he’s James Earl Jones and nobody else will ever come close to sounding like him.

Rest In Peace to James Earl Jones. Even in his last years his voice was still in better shape than most 70 year olds.

Honestly James’ voice being different in this film is the most understandable and acceptable difference from the original considering he’s so old now. Give the guy a break.

The guy is over 90 years old holy shit, what the hell did you expect?

Am I the only person that actually still loves his voice? When he was younger it had more growl but now it's more smooth and feels more like calm and wise.

I don’t care how “bad” you think he sounds. James Earl Jones’ voice still sounds a million times better than everyone else.

It's like Julie Kavner and her voice as Marge Simpson. It's amazing how they can still pull off their wonderful and unique voices, but my god give these two a rest, stop straining their old voices.

He still sounds good for being in his 90s now. I'm just glad we still have this man with us.

Someone rightfully pointed out in the comments of the YMS that he should’ve voiced Rafiki. His voice is more suitable for that character + great meta-aspect of still being able to teach Simba.

The "yEs" sounds like he's upset about something and he's just been asked if getting a snack would make him feel better.

I like how thanks to the algorithm, the top comments are just people slandering Adum, stating he should give James Earl Jones a break due to his age

Yeah, by using the “be thankful” or “give him a break” argument you imply his performance was not great. He is very old, Jon would’ve been able to cast someone else, that’s the issue.

He eventually explained he was blaming Disney, and Jon for that decision, not James himself lmao

"His voice is now better for this film"
He's actually correct here. His voice sounds tired, worn out and lacks significantly more emotion - just like the rest of the film

(No disrespect to JEJ though, he is one of my favourite actors, but they just should've let the poor man rest. There's plenty of other actors with a great voice they could've picked that don't rely on nostalgia bait)

Someone in the comments of the YMS Lion King said that it would’ve been more suitable if JEJ played Rafiki, and IMO, it would’ve actually been kinda cool

"Give him a break!" Adam isn't critiquing the actor, he's critiquing the casting director

You realize people age right - the man is a brilliant actor who is in his 90’s - let’s see if any of us sound half as good as him if we even make it to our 90’s - give the guy a break smh

Even though James was in his 60s when the original Lion King was made, he still had that power in his voice that made him sound like a king

Favreau shamelessly claiming “OH NO JAMES SOUNDS BETTER FOR THE PART NOW!” is so funny.

It's unfortunate that nerds refuse to let James Earl Jones retire, to them he will always be Darth Vader and Mufasa, and Hollywood being Hollywood will pander to these nerds, he's 91, James deserves to live in peace.

The gesture Jon made when he said “He’s still got the pipes” while shaking his head spoke volumes.
