It doesn't "fix" it. It temporarily conceals it. I've been an automotive detailer for a while, and have used WD 40 in the past. I can tell you that WD40 has similar oily properties to wax, in the slightest of ways. If you have scratches that are extremely light, going over them with wax will seem to make them dissapear. In reality, you are simply filling in the scratches in the clearcoat with the wax, and after a few washes / rain, the scratches will reappear. This is essentially doing the same thing - if the scratches are very light, the oily, almost wax-like properties of WD40 will fill them in and temporarily conceal them. Now to permanently get rid of scratches you need the right tools, compound, and polish, to actually remove the top most layer of clearcoat and smooth it out.

I broke my arm last summer and sprayed WD40 on it (2 coats) I was immediately healed. Amazing stuff!

As a detailer I can say that when he sprayed the wd40 on his car it began to eat the clear coat. And that black on his rag was his paint coming off, much more rubbing and you would have seen primer! Don't do this or you will have to go to a body shop and get it painted. When he could have had it wet sanded, and buffed. Then waxed over and it would all be gone

It's a good temporary fix. Would recommend others to try this.
The issue is it only removes the dirt and loose paint and doesn't remove the scratch. You can still feel the scratch with your fingers. But none the less, it becomes unnoticeable until you start trying to find the scratches.

It doesn't work so good if the scratch is deep

we had a guy come in to the bodyshop about this video He put WD 40 on his car and it worked for a few days He thought he might aswell get the scratches fixed the right way and get it painted it took us a few hours to remove the WD 40 which ended up costing him a few hundred dollars extra So ya Thank you CrazyrussianHacker

This is an old trick people often use before trading in a vehicle. After a while, the WD40 will evaporate and the scratches will still be there. It may remove paint residual but it's never going to fill any damage or deep scratches, especially if they go deep into the clear coat. Doing this the right way doesn't take a whole lot of time.

Damn, as you sprayed the DW-40, I started to smell it in my room. Geez, what kind of Russian magic is this?

I have never used WD-40 in my life but some people seem to use it for everything and it even seems to work. What is in that stuff? Shredded unicorns?

You got to love this guy and his commitment. He just straight went and scratched his car in order to make a video about using WD-40 to clean it.

as a detailer, this made me cringe :/ everything he did was so wrong and horrible for your paint. do NOT do this!

This trick is so incredible, I hit a tree last week and bought a case of WD-40 and just sprayed it all over the damage and the car looks like new. This not only takes out scratches it removed
