Standing Seam roof repair

Показать описание
Our flat Standing Seam metal roof at our holiday cabin had started to shift, uncovering the roof structure. It seems that the roof panels were floating in their respective clips thus allowing each panel to wander to-and-fro during summer and winter expansions and contractions. The solution was to tap the panels back to their designated positions and secure one end of each roofing panel to the roof framing substructure.
This initial attempt was not successful.
Each panel was securely crimped to its neighbors and no amount of pounding with a sludge hammer was going to budge them. We also found that each crimp was also filled with a rather viscous semi-plastic white adhesive that seemed to be of the consistency of sticky gum. We researched YouTube for the procedure to unzip a Standing Seam roof and could not find anything helpful.
So, we rolled up our respective sleeves and gave it a go. Here is a video of our attempt, which worked. Once we had split the seams on both sides, we found each panel was held to the roof with 3 clips on one side of its 15’ length. It was then easily tapped back into position. We then secured each floating panel to one end of the roof structure with rubber washer roofing screws.
We then used a rubber mallet to tap the roofing panels back together.
