Wait & Stay are two separate commands, with different forms of release.

Great tip. I am working with my Yorkie and my Morkie on 'stay' but we have to work on them remaining in that position when I am not in front of them.

I used a method I made to teach stay and my dog stays for over 40 minutes while I’m in a different room if I just say the command


here’s the method I used


get high quality treats or chicken hearts
keep your dog in a sit position and back up quickly
with a hand command like a fist
quickly come back, mark and reward
repeat 5-10 times, each time increasing the amount of time
