4K120 and better wide angle is a must for me so upgrading from my 14pro

Dang the clamp example is so spot on. I’m glad I took mine back and bought a camera

I had a feeling the shutter button would mess up grips but I think a quick solution will be to switch to Magsafe style grips that don't need to clamp the sides.

Think I'm going to stay with my 15Pro. PetaPixel did a test in video with the new ultra wide angle sensor on the 16Pro. At 400% compared to the 15Pro there was no major difference. Hope we get that bigger main sensor next year.

Stop calling the iPhone not a “real” camera. It’s a tool that happens to have a capable camera. A true artist will see this and nothing less and say “let’s create” because It’s a canvas that does things conveniently for the user work. This is as real as anything else without the housing of a “ traditional camera”. We are approaching new horizons when it comes to cinematography due to this “camera” that happens to be a phone as well.

In 2024: this is what a cinema camera needs at its core.

1. 4k resolution and above.
2. Intraframe encoding [RAW & RGB].
3. High dynamic range. [Must record logarithmic.
4. Wide color gamut. From 10bit [1 Billion colors].
5. Removable lenses.

This is a camera if those would weld it as such. If you see it as an investment, you can added a lens and have depth control. You can grade it with an industry suited codec.

If anything, this will be the future of film making. The technology alone for it is its biggest advantage. I would even take the claim further and say that this challenges us as filmmakers to be greater. If you can make amazing work on a phone, you can do this with any camera. Fundamentals don’t change in this art form. Just effort and technique.

And while I’m on that point, they are opportunities even for you to improve with your color conversion because this is not a good example of log nor color potential. Your mid tones and high tones are shattered here. Darkness doesn’t equal to depth in color. It’s the dance between light and darkness that makes such depth we call in 2024 “ cinematic” . That alone is not Enough ingredients that will be needed to call a piece in its totality, cinematic. It’s an art form, not just a “look”.

You're in Houston? 😂 Just started following you and found this out.
I shoot for years and also train out here. (Jiu jitsu, capoeira & breakin)

Been in Houston for 4 years now. 😎🍻

You can't use tele nor super wide lenses for 120fps because the main sensor is only Sony stacked CMOS image sensor.

I'm not upgrading. I would have if the sensor would have been larger in the 16 pro.

Already disabled the camera control button. It gets in the way more than it helps. You can disable the button. However, even with it disabled, when you have apps open, if you have a clamp pressing the button, it will not let you close those apps, including camera app.

How much memory do you guys recommend for ProRes Log shooting mainly 4k 24fps? Or are you all going with 256 gb and using external SSD?

Ur reviews sometimes are very daunting

they only added the faster sensor readout on the main sensor...that is why you can only shoot 120fps on the main sensor.

videos like this make me question my whole career in videography and just make me anxious and depressed. Last week I got called out by a client for using my camera and not the new tech on his mind, the iphone. after a while in the reunion he pointed out that he has a cinematography camera on his pocket and ive never heard from him again. Clients on this lowbudget area im still in belive they can do it themselves and then never bother to do it. ive had a rough time saving up to 11k for a fullframe camera rig ( yes I need low light capabilities for me in ortder to get more jobs as in a nightlife is the company I work for the most) but then im just wondering If I was just being a clown for actually buying all this gear and making all this sacrifices to be able to have more capabilities. ive been stuck for 2 months now thinking if I should continue or quit this as anyone with a granny phone believes that they can make it themselves and that makes them never contract anyone. I already lost an oportunity to record some footage for a big company commercial and my next opportunity would be on November. what should I do? should I change my 2018 samsung phone and get this granny phone or should I get the rig of my dreams but be obsolete in a few years by a phone?

I love how the iPhones camera has stayed the exact same for 3 iterations now, and people are freaking out, losing their minds over the 16 Pro quality...

Internet hive mind is weird.

Ya the camera button wasn't very well thought out for it's use case. It's not useful and it needs to be disabled if your'e gonna use it with a case and other accessories.

And not being able to shoot 4k120 in ultra wide is a pretty big disappointment.

Did you use the blackmagic app or the 16 pro native app?

Just bought iPhone 16 pro … immediately I see issue with video .. when moving from 0.5 ultra wide to 1X the video lens immediately switches with a very very noticeable.. I have seen several other iPhones including my old 11, wife’s 14 … also some friends’ iPhones 15 pro models … none of them have any flickering shift of 0.5 video when zoomed into regular 1X … this is simply so frustrating and unacceptable… I am totally perplexed… pls help if anyone else have experienced this or knows a solution … thanks so much in advance !!

Every caveat will be fixed in the iPhone 17 😂

The mics are better, the audio mix is sick. Better battery. All the camera improvements, better heat dissipation. Apple intelligence later is just the icing on the cake. Def worth an upgrade.
