Today we’re going to talk about the benefits of taking a cold shower.

For more details on this topic, check out the full article on the website:

Why take cold showers?
It all has to do with something called cryotherapy or cold therapy. This concept is based on hormesis. With hormesis, what you’re doing is adding a moderate amount of stress to create a beneficial effect.

By taking a 20 minute cold shower, you can increase norepinephrine by 200-300%. When you increase this nerve transmitter, you can:

• Drop inflammation
• Increase your antioxidant network (including glutathione)
• Increase your mitochondria
• Increase your T-cells

How to take cold showers to get these cold shower benefits:

Start out with maybe 30 seconds or a minute, and gradually increase the time you’re in the cold shower over time.

7 cold shower benefits:

1. Decrease muscle pain
2. Decrease joint pain
3. Speed up recovery
4. Decrease inflammation
5. Increase cognitive function
6. Increase mood
7. Increase metabolism

I've been purposely taking cold showers for years including winters. I've been telling my family and friends that it makes me feel better and that I believe is one of the reasons why I hardly ever get sick. But they all said that I was crazy.
Now I know I was right.

To anyone thinking of doing this - I’ve been doing cold showers for 2 weeks. The first 2-3 days are difficult, it was hard to work down from warm to cold, and I didn’t enjoy the cold water at all. By day 4 - I felt like my body was getting used to it, I could get to cold quicker, it felt less bad, I could stay under the cold water for longer. Now I go in with the water a few degrees above cold, then after a few seconds go straight down to cold and it feels fine - I actually enjoy the cold feeling, and feel refreshed afterwards and sleep better. I went to the beach yesterday, and normally don’t like the feeling of wading into the water as it feels too cold etc. now I just go straight in, and it feels great.

Seriously try it out, and push through the first few days it will be worth it.

Cold shower melts away stress. You feel stronger at the end. Also no more fogged mirror. For those with dry skin, it doesn't dry out the skin. Its quicker, since the air feels warmer than the cold water and you want out as soon as you're done.

We live pretty comfortable lives and it gives you a sense of accomplishment, of having done something difficult pretty early in your day. You'll carry this good mood as you carry on with your day.

I'm about 30 months into a regimen of Intermittent fasting and finishing every shower with a cold rinse. My diet is 90% keto with occasional cheats.
Additionally, I stopped alcohol about 14 months ago.
I changed several habits over about a year as I was pre diabetic, chronically fatigued all the time with awful insomnia.
I felt really old.
I'm 60 now- I definitely used to be stronger when I was younger, but I have never been healthier in my life; I sleep well now and have noticeably better mental elasticity.
I have not had so much as a sniffle in two years and I have the energy to work out 3-4 times a week again.
I may not feel younger... but I feel less old. :)

I do a combination of strict Keto, OMAD and ~10 min cold shower every morning and have seen tremendous results in the last 8 months. Lost 30 kg, beat pre-diabetes / metabolic syndrome and overcame chronic fatigue. Can recommend this to everyone, has worked a miracle in my life. Kind regards and thanks a lot for your great channel, Dr. Berg. Mike

The positive effects from a two minute cold shower is without a doubt the biggest surprise I’ve ever had when It comes to health hacks. (this includes intense cardio throughout the years). I feel enormously energized physically and emotionally after a cold shower. The caveat is I can’t go straight into a cold shower I have to work up to it slowly. Having a hand-held shower head helps. Thanks for this video Dr. Berg.

Been taking cold showers for a little over a year. I first started because I had extreme anxiety so the shock to my body removed me from being in my head and just solely focus on breathing. Especially in the winter when the waters really cold. I continue taking cold showers because it relaxing, improved my skin, and also helps me sleep at night.

I've started taking cold showers in the morning during the covid lockdowns while working from home. It really helped my mood and motivation to do work. I also like how it makes me feel warmer for longer during the day.
