I initially uploaded this video on my other channel Pop Psych. As I develop this channel more - I think this is a good starting point.

In this video I discuss my career - How I transition from counseling psychology to organizational consulting.

I appreciate the recognition that being a good therapist requires deep emotional work with yourself and patients that not everyone is ready or equipped to handle.

Nice insight. I have a BS in Psych, and am finishing my MS in Applied Behavior Analysis. I find myself gravitiating toward and enjoying using my skill set in organizational applications at my workplace, so I am considering a doctorate in I/O Psychology.

Thank you for this video! I’m getting my masters in I-O psych and I aspire to be a consultant once I’m complete! I made the switch from counseling to I-O as well for the same reasons! I’m in love with the field and I’m very excited to get out and join a great consulting firm!! Best wishes to you!!

Thank you so much for this. My story is so similar to yours. I got my masters in counseling and ended up quitting community mental health 7 months into licensure due to burn out. I really resonated about the difficulty of making emotional connections as counselors. A lot of time you do serve as a validation for behavior which can be tiresome. Definitely interested in organizational psych and plan on applying to a program! Thanks a bunch for the information.

I have a Batchelors in psych. My husband at the time, I am remarried, was blown up in Iraq. It forever, dealing with Walter Ried Army medical Center, changed my dreams. I am bipolar, they say ;). I like your pathways of rationalizing things. I take a more holistic approach and have been med free for over 15 years. I subscribed and am so super happy you are sharing yourself. It is not easy to put yourself out there. Ty

This explains soooo much as to why I have never done well with the therapy idea or my experiences in it.

Youtube is strange in the way that we feel like we are slowly getting to know the content creators we watch. And thus we want to interact in the comments. And I love that! Thank you for sharing.

POP PSYCH: I love watching you guys. I wish you would watch the whole series from the beginning. Do a binge watch. Because if you could see the episode in Christine's bedroom where they're putting up the door and he's telling her he doesn't care if they have sex and that she should stay and take it. Also, your wife is right. 😊 It doesn't matter how many other relationship channels are out there. We need help out here.

Btw - I definitely appreciate your diligence and hard work in your various social media outlets. I am excited to learn from you and your wife, when you upload new videos. I hope you aren’t spreading yourself too thin by doing your “day job”while creating a respected social media mini-empire. I understand that Allison is not a psychologist but she has mentioned that she works in the corporate world. Are any of her work skills also translatable to the social media platform?

Asa lawyer who is frustrated with the lack of intellectual stimulation in my career but I am 52, married to a 61 year old engineer who is happy to see retirement in the next 10-15 years, I do not envision a major career shift unless I worked behind the scenes on a program such as yours. I love the idea of sharing knowledge and perspective while recognizing what parts of my information are subject to my internal bias vs empirical facts, etc.

Is your final dissertation available for your fans to read? If so, where can we easily locate it? Perhaps google a scholar?
