I forgot to mention this really interesting book that I read last month about one of the early and important Greenland explorers Peter Freuchen that I recommend if you are interested in exploration in general or Greenland in particular.

The narrator from that old documentary was Alexander Scourby. I know his voice from his other work.

I used to work with a guy that said he was stationed there. The stories he told were so wild and unbelievable, I thought it was all BS. Until I saw a Discovery Channel show about it years later.

It was significantly warmer during the Norse stay there.

I found this video of particular interest. Not only for the construction of the "under ice" base, but because my Uncle, Captain Dick Mills (USAF) served two tours of duty at Thule, Greenland.
Love your content and Commentary.

Hey Casey. I loved this video and chose to buy you a coffee. This was the first time for me to do so for any video.

As I did so, there was a space to write a comment. I wrote my thoughts, added my payment info, which was processed by my bank.

No complaints, but I do not see my comment on this list.

I guess it is best to write comments directly on YouTube.

Thanks for all your videos. This one struck a chord for me as it relates to my experience in Antarctica in the late 1980s. It is a little late to add now.

I always learn so much from your descriptions and observations.

Happy New Year.

Twould be interesting to see what you can "dig up" about the massive installation allegedly under the cap in Antarctica...

They're all wearing bunny boots! The best cold weather piece of clothing the Army ever produced. During my young years, the Army Surplus Stores in Alaska were full of those boots and that style of parka that they are wearing as well. Most of the guys who worked in the oil fields in Prudhoe Bay, did it in those boots. There was nothing better for keeping your feet warm in - 60 temperatures. At some point it became impossible to find them anymore, the Army stopped making them. There was talk that they were going to start making an updated version, but I don't know if that ever happened.

Well done. You got pretty much all the key points. The only thing you didn't mention is that the US built Camp Century without the permission of the Danish government which caused some issues in Denmark. Camp Century has the potential to become a real problem now that the ice caps are melting and there's no way the US can wipe their hands of the hazardous waste left behind. I don't know how you could even begin to plan to clean up something like this where contaminates are spreading out within the ice sheet. It's a like a box of hand grenades with a label that says "CAUTION Some safety pins may be missing".

I'm reading John Scalzi's "Kaiju Preservation Society" - Camp Century currently houses an interdimensional gateway :-D

It would be interesting to know how far the military got in its plans to install missile silos onsite

In the UK the Gateshead Flyover has been closed because of it's deteriorating condition. The pillar that is collapsing also sits over a subway tunnel meaning that took is closed for now. The flyover carries 40, 000 vehicles a day and will probably remain closed until it is taken down sometime within the next 4 years.
