Mitutoyo vs chinsese 'Mitutoyo'? caliper (unboxing)

bought a real mitutoyo digimatic caliper for some time ago. thaught that it would be intersesting to compare it against a Cheap one from china. Did not know if the chinsese, was a counterfeit, but after having a quick look on it. I defently Think it is. this video is for educational Purpose Only. And the Purpose is to help People spot the fake on so that they can avoid the counterfeit versions.

The paper is VPCI (Vapor Phase Corrosion Inhibitor) it basically outgases a substance which prevents corrosion from occurring.

The battery on the fake one is LR44 in a SR44 labeled package. The real one is SR44 on the battery and tag.

One tip off is said to be the locking thumbscrew, ive been told by some that the real caliper has the shorter thumbscrew and the chinese knockoff has the longer one. The quality difference of that plastic is obvious. (typo corrected)

Look at the Serialnumber of the calipers. The fake one has a different number on the "measuring certificate" and on the caliper. The real one has the same number on the measuring certificate and on the caliper. You can see it in the video. The signature is printed cause the inspection is made automatically by robots. The written name is probably just the supervisor of the inspection department.

hello, thank you for this information, I was wondering, what is the precision of the measurement for the fake (not the display resolution). I know the real one is 0.01mm but the fake one? THANKS ! regards

Obvious differences not pointed out: 1.Real one didn't have inch graduations on the yellow sticker. 2. Real one's channel is milled with almost no tool marks and the end of the channel is semi-circular. Fake one's channel end's in a ramp instead of a semi-circular stop. Clue number 2 works on every fake that I've encountered.

On my similar legit calipers there was different name and different figures in the inspection certificate. They don't just copy them at mitutoyo

I suspected a lot of counterfeit on these popular Calipers, thank you for comfirming, I ordeted mine with a legit distributor.

Also notice the numbering underneath the barcode on the case label, the spacing is different. The number 4 is spaced further away from the barcode and there is a larger gap in the center of the numbers between digit number 6 and 7. My caliper matches your set that doesn't have the knock-off picture.. I also ordered from a Mitutoyo recommended dealer..
