A thing to try if deep frying at home wont work for you is doing the boiling step, then painting on oil at regular intervals as you cook them in your oven. Of course it's very different, but it's an equally delicious potato side with plenty hands-off time to prepare other meals.

To make it even better, I add just a bit of white vinegar to the initial boil. This keeps the fries from falling apart.
