After my Sophomore year of college, in the summer of 2012 I worked at Google Headquarters as a Software Engineering Intern in Mountain View, CA. This is the incredible true story of how I got a job at Google by failing my interview.

Three offers from 100+ applications isn't failure, it's three successes 🤔

I feel like I say this on every video??? but HERE IT IS AGAIN: I love the way you balance humor and Real Talk. you're making software engineering and self-love so much accessible to people

Hey, I've failed many times,
I failed committee interviews, internship interviews, my peers don't even consider me for hackathon participation.

Yet I am going to rise.

Thanks for the video !

Lmao. I’m pretty sure this is what Facebook did to me. “ Should we let Tyler know she didn’t get the internship? ” “nah let’s let her get excited and tell people first”. I didn’t get it. 😂

I was at this stage recently.
My gf was encouraging me to apply at Amazon and I kept telling her that I’m sure to fail.

But one morning they sent me an invite for an interview. Was telling my gf that there’s no way I’d pass but it’s still cool to interview there as it’s one of the biggest IT companies out there. Then I watched this video. The line “if you don’t think you’re good enough to work at Google, me neither but I applied anyway” really inspired me, and now I work at Amazon. 😁

Thank you Jarvis for the encouragement.

Holy crap your video is so relatable it's uncanny. I'm currently a sophomore at Georgia Tech who failed dozens upon dozens of interviews and had only two real offers on hand before I interviewed with Google. Thought I messed up my second interview cuz it wasn't on something I wasn't prepared for (surprise surprise lmao) and struggled through that agonizing week of waiting. Thankfully though, I did manage to get the SWE internship! And I get to do machine learning which I'm super passionate about. This was my goal for such a long time and I now feel like I need to find a new goal or passion in life. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Love the video man. I'm a Junior CS Major right now and I couldn't agree more with what you said. It's all about shrugging off and learning from failure to bolster your future. Keep up the great content!

Thank you, Jarvis. I've never actually failed an IT interview, but I was kind of cheating (I knew too much for a junior by the time I wanted to be a junior). Now that I'm moving towards a more demanding job, I think I'm going to fail a lot. But now that I know that someone got rejected 97 times out of 100, I'm gonna remind myself that I'm doing okay.

I have a huge case of impostor syndrome and feel the least adequate out of all my CS classmates...but I'm gonna try applying to as many places as possible because I really want to gain some experience and perspective. Thanks for your videos, Jarvis! It would be the coolest thing ever to meet you one day ☺️

Hey man, I know you're so done with tech stuff, but I've been feeling incapable to land an internship as a sophomore, but your words in the last part from this video lifted up my mood! Thank you so much for sharing. Such a man.

This is an awesome video. I'm a software developer, but I'm self taught and in a bind of whether or not to learn fundamentals like algorithms, in depth data structures, etc... This video is motivating. Thanks for sharing!
