S-Rank Campaign Scrub Makes a Days of Ruin Tier List!

I have sadly never had the opportunity to play Days of Ruin in multiplayer with anyone, so take this tier list with a VERY large grain of salt, but I figured with an entire S-Rank campaign plus bonus maps under my belt I at least know how each CO feels under optimal circumstances, so might as well get on this Advance Wars train before it leaves the station.

If anyone knows of a way to play Days of Ruin multiplayer hit me up with that info, I love this game and want to experience it with others!

Let me know how horrible my tier list is in the comments below! Would love to hear some opinions from people who have actually played a significant amount of Days of Ruin multiplayer.

I really wish the Beast was a playable CO I could see him playing as a sort of opposite of Brenner where he gets more attack but his units have less defense.

A brief summary of thoughts I either did share or wish I shared in my video:

Caulder endlessly snowballs advantage with no downside.

Isabella boosts all units and has one of the best powers in the game, only held back by her relatively small boost.

Lin might not have a great power but she can boost most of your widely used units by a significant amount.

Brenner has a meaningful defense boost for all units and his power pairs well with high defense, helpful in both reversing a bad position and pushing advantage.

Will has a solid attack boost on your core units and a good power at pushing the advantage.

Gage is circumstantially useful, but longshot is great for breaking standstills.

Forsythe has a universal boost but no power means he doesn't have an ability to push the advantage or reverse a bad position.

Waylon is situational but high defense is great for creating lockjam and stalling out enemies.

Tasha is situational and doesn't have any tools to reverse a losing position but her CO influence and power is great at closing out games once you establish a good position.

Tabitha is fun to use and with ideal situations becomes unstoppable but you're almost never going to see her pop off.

Penny is not useful most of the time but weather can sometimes throw your enemies off guard.

Greyfield is too situational to be very viable but his massive defense makes him an absolute pain to scrub off the map when his navy gets going.

The music was such a great touch. A lot of people complain about days of ruin taking away high impact co powers, but I didn't mind. It was always annoying to get Olaf'd by my older brother and in days of ruin I got to focus a lot more on tactics.
I think your co list is fair, but gage could be an A, ranged units/powers (at least with the group of friends/family I played with) are so important in a more "positional" game and can break a stalemate.

I think a lot of the surprised comments about Tabitha remember how much of a problem she was in wifi battles but forget how terrible the map pool was. Of course she'll be a popular pick when you have garbage like Basin Forest and Fist Peninsula on the table. But she's not quite as oppressive in bigger maps with land and air units in play.

Playing as Penny was a struggle, hoping for sandstorm so you could pretend to be Brenner for three turns

*To add on my last point about Thabita*
Any Advance Wars match is heavily dependent on economy based on total army value, and the winning side always manage to get a comfortable lead on it (HQ capture could be an exception, but the losing party has to blunder it some way if there's no eco lead). Unit stats are a heavy influence in that economy, since a good bonus will increase the damage you can do to the enemy's value and decrease the damage you take. Days of Ruins uses CO zones and powers for passive boosts instead of the usual granted boosts from the other AW games.
So, Thabita bonus is stronger than any other CO bonus right off the bat, and generally it will take more than 2 units in any other CO zone (aside from the CO unit) to get a potential lead in comparisson to what Thabita has to offer to a single unit, meaning you would have to spend much more money to gain more value than her. That in itself gives Thabita a strong guaranteed profit when she produces a CO unit that is meaningful to the battle and the Rock Paper Scissors in the match (which can be done on early Recon, Tanks and maybe Choppers depending on the match. But there are lots of other options). Early game she'll definitely gain more value than any other CO since it will take a while for any other CO zone to get going, and that can grant her an eco lead either from kills or more captures. Furthermore, Thabita can play more flexible since she doesn't have to rely on multiple units in the same zone to gain value. And I'm just talking about her starting zone, if she gains more zone she will multiply her benefit and get the strongest CO zone in the match. So basically, she easily gains profit and she also presents a pretty scary threat that has to be adressed. Both of these traits reflect a strong CO.

Thabita has scary potential with +50/50%. She's definitelly one of the best if not the best CO for early game since she'll get huge value in harasser units like a Recon. If it's a relatively short map she'll really be a pain to deal with. For bigger maps you could make a case that she's weaker, but it's still far from C tier.

penny is nice in rain because she doesn't get the vision penalty as long as she's on the map

sandstorm is -30% attack power

Penny’s weather immunity is a global d2d not just for co zone units. I’m pretty it makes her immune to rain fog of war but you would need to check yourself. Regardless shes still terrible outside of any map that doesn’t have random weather even with the -30% firepower debuff on sandstorm she’s immune to.

Hard IMO
Greyfield should be D. Even in a naval focused map I’d find it hard to justify using him over other COs. Brenner has unconditional defense and a better power, Isabella, Gage, and Tabitha have some monster battleships, etc. In a “balanced” map he’s worthless, since you’ll ignore navy and focus land/air.

I’d push Gage up to A. He’s good.

Not sure about Tabitha and Forsythe. Forsythe just feels kind of eh. Tabitha super units are terrifying but as you noted her CO zone has crap range.

Overall fairly similar to how I’d rank them.

It’s been a while since I played dor but i remember in multiplayer playing against a tabitha is usually a challenge especially if it’s a tabitha md tank or mega tank, I remember it being almost impossible to kill, would have to surround it with infantry just for it to not do anything big

Tabitha C tier? I dunno under which rock you lived but there's a reason why she was the most picked CO in Online matches.
Remember, along with the Meteor, her power also grants all units on the field +50% Attack and Defense. It's like Sturm's Meteor Strike combined with Kanbei's Samurai Spirit.

I would argue caulder is only difficult when he has an income lead and even then you can just make units and suicide them onto his units without killing every turn, while attacking somewhere else that is critical.

Waylon is A tier, Lin is C tier, Brenner/Will are B tier.

I simply disagree, tabitha should've stand in A rank she is not a weak CO, lin, will, brenner are suppose to be in B rank not an A rank. That's all imo

I’m sorry but tabitha so low??? She’s insanely OP

Would literally rather play as Flak over any DS co TBH. All of them are trash except maybe Caulder (hes only super OP when you already have a bunch of income, otherwise all you need is a slight lead with properties in the capture game to quickly shut him down in multiplayer). That being said, Lyn or however you spell her name is by far the worst. B tier, For real? You need to make an E-Rank category just for her.
