The Rookie Season 5, John Nolan receives the LAPD golden ticket directly from the Chief of the Police.

I kinda love when he first decided to be a T.O. Tim told him it's not a fall back job. How just last week he wanted to be a detective but now he can't he wants this. It's an important job and not something to do just because. Nolan tells him it's not that, and he will be a T.O. and here Tim suggests doing something else but Nolan still wants to be a T.O. Kinda wish Tim would have acknowledged his dedication to it and showing how serious he is.

I like how everyone laugh when he said about being a TO but Lucy don’t laugh at him she looks at Tim for laughing lol

After Sgt. Grey congratulated Nolan, it would be nice if the show's writer add a line for Nolan to say: "I wish Cpt. Andersen is here to see this" as she was the LAPD captain who foresaw Nolan's potential and took him in her LAPD Mid-Wilshire Division as a rookie despite his advance age, who also was killed in the line of duty trying to protect Nolan from a vengeful gang leader.

0:56 going Air Support got a bonus of flight school and a backup career

1:02 K-9 Unit would be a good place, you got overtime of $200/hour and you can keep the dog

1:08 if you want more money you can go with computer forensics

1:14 or just become a training officer to train the next generation of cops

If Nolan was any other rookie with a regular routine he would have taken Detective easy

But given what he’s gone through before donning the uniform up to now, he knows how important a guiding mentor is having ridden with a multitude of TOs & Mentors as well as having met corrupted individuals in Stanton, Armstrong & the union president

He now understands a TO can bring greater change to rookies when they start far greater than when they become established in the force

Not to mention, he's a father which already makes him a natural 'mentor' as a TO

Plus given the level of ‘excitement’ he goes through as a uniform, time in a suit won’t match up to it

His decision of vocation was made from his experience not his inexperience
