I have spiders already getting inside here in Louisiana. At night outside I help them catch bugs to eat by holding a light near their webs. I`ve stepped on large lawn spiders barefoot by accident and their bites can be painful but they didn`t harm me.

All spiders are not bad. They have a place in the world too.

In general and broadly, (not the dangerous ones) spiders behave quite well and don’t cause much of any problem to us. We have had red back spiders just appear in or from the recessed lighting inside the house and a web to the floor. A web made overnight and it would be after a week or so of wet weather. To alleviate the problem of spiders building any web to begin with inside the house or beneath the ceiling of outdoor structures, I dab a few drops of pure lemon oil on a clean broom head and smear it lightly over all the bristles. Then I give each light a few dabs with the broom head bristles. Then give a dab to a few other places like door surrounds or overhead beams and on the back and underside of outdoor chairs, under the tables etc. I keep the broom clean for this job that I do about 4 times a year. It takes minutes and costs very little and is a one ingredient solution and gives peace of mind and doesn’t harm anything much as far as I know. The spiders avoid the lemon oil or smell, and stay away. It has worked for us.

One time I found a half eaten cockroach on the outside screen door low down and right beside that insect was a large huntsman spider who had obviously done a good job of keeping this cockroach from getting into the house. Therefore some spiders around might be a good idea to have. I don’t mind huntsman spiders as they hangout around pot plants outside and probably just eat other insects we don’t want in our houses. 👍🙂

Great information! Never thought about treating dryer vents and the holes where the utilities come into the house. Thank you so very much from zone 6b.

Most home & garden related channels, unsurprisingly, offer advice to owners of houses with outdoor property but I wonder if there is any different or additional information/suggestions applicable to high rise apartment dwellers, with multiple neighbours (above, below, and on all sides) as well as restrictive landlords.
I live on the 13th floor of a multi-unit, rental building In the downtown core of a Zone 6 North American city.
This particular video caught my attention as I have an inexplicable & irrational aversion to spiders, and seem to be seeing signs of them with alarming frequency lately... undoubtedly due to the change of season.
Any further suggestions beyond treating external windows & balcony doors, holes & areas around pipes under sinks & vanities, and any holes or gaps around baseboards or closets, would be gratefully received.
In addition, thank you for your concise, practical, and cost effective advice.
This is the 2nd of your videos that I have watched after recently coming across your channel on my homepage and I am delighted to be a new subscriber.

Nothing like mountain biking in the forest clearing out spider webs and flicking off spiders as you ride

You want to import Wolf Spiders in your home or trailer. Its the equivalent of having cats that eat your mice. Identify wolf spiders so you know them when you see them, no fear of them. They'll eat all your brown recluses and black widows.

In East TX scorpions are an issue and I think those are not spiders ? I will have to see if essential oils work

The garden orb weavers are beautiful. I love the banana spiders too. And the jumping spiders. I have the common black house spiders in my house but now they're trying to take over a bit. I don't want to kill them tho, cause they help keep the bugs out of my house. The huge fast aggressive ones tho...forgot their name now ...I don't care for them. They're inside the house now too. I live like an animal in a miniature Jurassic park.

Make sure you're aware that some essential oils are harmful to your pets... peppermint is one of them.🤷‍♀️

I don’t mind certain types of spiders, I find their webs can become a nuisance. I just evacuate them to the terrace if they multiply too much. Would citronella spray oil (that’s normally used for mosquitoes) do the same as a deterrent?

I love spiders! They kill those bugs that get in. Just learn to identify the couple who are dangerous to humans. Don’t kill them all!!!

It’s kinda hard to validate your advice when you’re not even proficient at filling a spray bottle to apply your own recommendation don’t you think?
