How To Front Squat With Proper Form

Now on the other hand, if you do have a history of back issues, or are simply not particularly concerned with performance or general strength training rather you lift purely for general health, then I would recommend you cut the squat a bit higher to entirely avoid the butt wink.

So in conclusion, it depends on your goals and the significance of the butt wink.

The wrong form vs. right form videos in the same frame are really helpful.

I'm only squatting with a bar now, no weight. You're totally right, I caught myself with heavy weight but suffering form. Starting all over from scratch to build up mobility in a full range of motion, then work back up.

START WITH LIGHT WIEGHTS! One day when I was starting out,  I lifted too heavy and almost fell backwards! I ended up throwing the weight off my chest, completely by reflex, and nearly shattered my knuckles on the bench in front of me. Or worse I could have actually fallen back and broken my neck on the wall behind me. At the most start with like 50% body weight if you haven't done front squats before, because if you push it too much and it might be the last workout you ever do.

THOUSAND LIKES FOR YOUR NICE AND SHORT INFORMATIVE VIDEO. tired of these long ass videos with so much nonsensical rants

Good afternoon Mr. Candito! Like probably so many before me, I am thankful to have stumbled upon your instruction videos. They have been straightforward, helpful, and above all you definitely seem to have empathy for those of us that are trying to find gains in form and/or weight - it's most appreciated.

Now, I'm 36 years of age, I train for firefighting and health, and needless to say I definitely have some wear and tear on this body - however, not much that I'd regularly complain about.

At any rate, call it genetically deficient or lack of technical efficiency - but despite never being afraid of legs, I have yet to truly develop a strong foundation which has always been a goal of mine to conquer. I wouldn't necessarily say that I need to gain size, but I do believe form and weight will naturally take care of that issue through the course of hard work and time.

No matter what I do, back squat, front squat, cleans, clean and jerk, I cannot accomplish what I'd consider a solid weight for my height and weight (5'10 170lbs. back squat 245, Front squat 165 :/). Also, it should be mentioned that I now have knee pain (above the knee itself and centered) and air popping sounds after finishing that 5x5 program about a month ago - never had this before.

I have been sticking with front squats only for about a month mainly due to this issue with my knees - it's not terrible pain but enough to make me angry because I stepped out to try a program and now this. Just frustrating as I'm sure you can understand.

So, long story short, I'm thinking this could be the byproduct of improper form, too much workload without rest, no oly shoes (reebok nanos which are strong but flat as pancakes), and being an old fart lol.

Basically, I was hoping that perhaps this issue could allow you to make a few key assumptions and direct me toward correcting it - and I certainly would appreciate a leg program that I you think I might benefit from.

Thank you for reading and for all of your humble posts!

Thank you so much!! I was attempting front squats on my own for the first time after ages. I was so uncomfortable the first 2 sets. I found your video during my rest period & almost instantly it made so much sense & I was able to get more reps in comfortably!!

Another great video with easy to understand tips! I think one of the huge reasons your channel is growing is that you tend to have a no BS approach and you get right to the point without adding tons of drama or entertainment which isn't needed. That's just my opinion, though.

Best front squat form from a power lifter I've ever seen. Your ankle and hip mobility is impeccable. Great vid!

I don't comment on YouTube channels much, but JC, your stuff just gets better and better, brother.  Simple, minimal jargon, minimal bias, and no ego.  Please keep the good content coming and wish more lifters would come learn from your vids.
