Running 10km is a distance that requires both speed and endurance. My first ever 10k was 50:17 back in 2018 when I started running. What 10k time would I be able to run four years later?

In all my races everyone always starts to fast and end up gassing in the last lap or two. The slower the pace the better in the long run

When I watch other people run it looks so effortless but then when I run especially at that pace it looks completely different 😂

Do you experience being able to run faster at races than in training?

I could probably run a sub 40:00 10km run if I wasn't running with a 25lbs bag on my back slowing me down and shifting my center of mass. But anyway, I run 4km from school to home and vice versa. My school is exactly 3900m away from my house and my school dismisses us at exactly 2:40. My day 2 period 4 class lets me off 2 mins early so I can prepare myself for the run, but my day 1 period 4 class lets us out on the bell so when I'm running, I have to subtract 1:00 from my total time when I get home because my day 1 period 4 class is on the third floor, so it takes 20 seconds to get downstairs, 20 seconds to get out of school, and about 10 seconds to get on the sidewalk and running. Again, with my heavy back that keeps shifting my center of mass and adding a more painful force onto my legs, I was able to hit an 18:40PR 4km run. Taking to mind the conditions I run under as there are elevations on the sidewalk about 1m tall, and de-elevations of 3m through a distance of 300m, also cracks in the sidewalk that will studder my step, I'm sure that if I ran on a normal track without a heavy back and no elevations, I could go 15:00 or less.

Been running few years. and now I'm upto 3-4 miles twice a week. the other days, calisthenic type body weight training. Feels great, feel strong! Nutrition on point. Except since I increased my mileage, I tested my one mile top speed (when I was fully recovered) and my speed dropped thirty seconds and I felt physically worn the F out. My long distance speed is faster now, but the tradeoff is my single mile speed is significantly slower. Is this common? Any advice is appreciated.
