How to set up Morphman

In this video I go over how to set up Morphman on Anki for a first time user. Morphman is a great add-on for busy people who want to be able to sentence mine from their favorite shows. Morphman isn't quite as good as traditional sentence mining, but if set up properly it can be a good substitute.
**Not discussed in the video but you should also install the add-on Unidic for Morphman!**

Man, seeing this makes me want to write my own i+1 anki addon. Morphman has a good core and solves a complicated problem but I really dislike how clunky and seemingly unstable it is (its qt5 support is broken since I think january).

The hardest part is the parsing of the sentences. If there was some library to do that or some neural network based solution that could with accuracy split sentence into the correct words, I'm pretty certain it would take maximally a few hundred lines. Done right probably way less.

I'm currently working a lot with neural networks. I'll see if I can cobble together a language model for this out of existing ones if there is none out there.

@OhTalkWho I think I saw you say that you use Anki a lot on your phone. Are there features that you have discussed for setting up Anki that specifically won't work on the Android phone app? Is it worth having a special video that is specific to the phone app? Case in point, the heatmap add-on doesn't seem to do anything for the phone version unless the addons didn't sync to my phone. 🤔

In the morphemizer field it says Japanese unavailable, i have the japanese support add on.
I googled it and there is nothing about this issue

This didn't work for me. I followed all your steps to the letter but nothing. When I pressed the "recalculate database', nothing happens. The Morph numbers on the top right don't change. They still say zero

What do I do if I give up on the deep dive and want morphman to just default to the usual frequency list that I had been using up to the point where I decided to do the deep dive?

So i usually replace my target morphs kanji with hiragana while i learn it, then turn it back once i know how its pronounced. But this makes morphman see the hiragana vs kanji versions of the same word as two new morphs and everytime i recalc i get a new sentence with the word im already learning so I have to press K on it. Is there any way around this? (I'm using MIA's Deluxe Jp Note type so the furigana and original sentence are all in one field)

What Minimum Master Frequency would you recommend for people that just finshed Tango N5?
Also would you say Unidic as Morphemizer is better Migaku Japanese? or do they not serve the same purpose? (I only have Migaku Japanese installed atm)

i swear i give up... it worked for a while and now my focus fields are empty... and now i am confused over my own setup. i dont know what to do anymore. i dont wanna learn cards with like 3 words i dont know. im used to learn with morphman and now im back to normal and im not feeling like doing new cards anymore... i did all that and i dont know how i should progress anymore. i realy need help and dont know where to get anki became supe not interresting anymore since this stopped working

hey. this all is amazing. the only one thing im confused is what to set the "input"directory" to. you download subs seperately. im just doing it more chilled and just get some premade deck from subs2srs database and import boom. do i still need to dl the subs seperately or how am i supposed to handle that? what should i set that on. i hope someone can help me. thanks

Edit: i give up morphman. i really wanted to use it but it just doesnt work for me. set up everything except that input feld. should it not anyhow rearange my cards according to my known stuff. ? still completely in order the deck ... i dont know how this is supposed to work ... sad

Do you do any 'standard' sentence mining like you mentioned at the beginning of the video or mainly use subs2srs+morphman?

Thanks for the video! I just completed the N5 Tango deck and I plan to start sentence mining. Do you recommend that I should start with a deep dive for my first show or should I let morphman randomly assign 1T sentences from my sentence bank and do a deep dive when I have more known morphs? 2:30, about that, I made my sentence mining routine so efficient, that it averages at 10 seconds a card. All with potplayer+mia dictionary card exporter. (This add-on has shortcuts to grab stuff from your clipboard, which I automated with AutoHotkey). So imo sentence mining has already closed the gap in accordance to speed.
