I've been using QB for 20 yrs, currently Desktop Premier 2020. Been getting all the emails about discontinuing but have not paid any attention to them until last week, I figured it was the same 3yr notice as always. Software that used to cost me $450 every 3 yrs, will now cost $800 per year. Insane - I will not do it. Plus I have Enhanced Payroll and merchant services, both of which I cancelled today. So Intuit not only lost a long term customer, but the increased cost plus the $500 annual payroll service, plus the merchant services to the tune of $20/month plus 3.69% on card fees. I do not use any cloud based computing and refuse to store any of my data on someone else's hard drive. So I'll just keep on using my software and find an alternate payroll solution and merchant service. Terrible business plan Intuit, just terrible.

I am a CPA (20+ years) and have been using QB for even longer. One of the drawbacks to QBOnline is that it is hard to create customized reports if you need something a bit out of the ordinary. Not so much a problem with QBDestop. And some clients have been using QBD since 2003 without upgrading. Granted they are not interfacing with their bank online, but QBD without support means that you can't call QB for help (no more talking to India). This is not as big a deal as might be supposed since there are so many QB Pro Advisors and/or QB practitioners available to help with your particular issues. I just hate paying each month for QBO which in my opinion is not as good as QBD. I am the CFO of two S corps and have been using QBO for more than 5 years. Yes, QB has improved QBO but I would switch back to QBD in a heartbeat.

Going to server side is a great way to put everyone's info in one place to make it simpler for a hacker or government agency to scrub all that information. Makes total sense. Quicker, simpler, and easier to be stolen from. Love it. ;-)

Boycott Intuit! Greed, greed, greed. I have no choice but to “upgrade” because of the payroll sub. The interface even in Desktop View is a real downgrade. Horrible. They deserve to go bankrupt.

Bite the bullet. Hell no. I am a former CPA who has been using QB since it was DOS screens.I now do bookkeeping for one little client and my personal bookkeeping on Quickbooks desktop. I have NEVER used their support. I only upload banking transactions. I will go back to handwritten ledgers like we did in the 70s before I pay almost $700 for an annual subscription. No way will I lock into anything with them going forward because once they have you and they have your data, you are hostage.

Will Desktop 2023 hold your data hostage like online does?
I have Desktop 2020 and really don't want to upgrade or change. I don't use online banking, credit cards, and could not care less about their "support." All I use is payroll. Do I have to upgrade/change? The new pricing DISGUSTS me.

desktop is better, the longer you can keep it the better

If I have to go online, then I might as well use a different company that does it better. So long QB.

If the only benefit of QBO or QB with a subscription is support, then it’s not worth it. The support is horrible. I am currently still using QBD 2014 Pro with no issues. QBD is fully paid for and I can set up more than one company versus a separate subscription for each company. Please remember, once you switch to QBO you can never go back.

The worst recommendation is to use an online accounting software platform. the IRS will love you. Only use a on premise platform. This was nothing but a sales pitch for her making more money.

What I am upset about is that my Quickbooks Pro 2020 won't even allow me to import .QBO files from my own hard drive anymore. They previously claimed I would only lose "online banking support." So I was paying $200 every 3 years, and now they want $600 per year. 10x as much.

I just had to make the decision a few days ago of whether to renew desktop or make the plunge into QBO. They are offering short term discounts on the QBO and enhanced payroll, but when you take those discounts away, Desktop w/payroll was actually cheaper. I was told with my upgrade I will have support for a full year and in September they will decided whether or not they will continue to offer Desktop. I will stay with Desktop as long as possible. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. 🤷‍♀️

I understand that the only constant is change. I also accept the premise that at $300 for a three-year run, Quickbooks desktop was under priced for what it does. But it looks like this change to online is going to make my Quickbooks cost multiply by a factor 1500%. That’s not a typo, I’ll be paying 15 times what I’m used to paying. For reference, this is the equivalent of a $6.00 Starbucks latte going to $90. A $300 a week grocery bill going to $4500. And a $40, 000 automobile costing $600, 000. If I was in business school right now, trying to get an MBA, I would do a deep dive into this, it’s such a great example of what happens when competition goes away. Having said all that, Jamie, you clearly seem to be the best informed person I’ve seen on YouTube about all of this. Will definitely be purchasing through your link.

I've had it with QuickBooks TBH. There is no reason to be forced to pay for a program you own each & every year. Adobe did the same thing & I switched to Affinity. I have ZERO ISSUE abandoning companies that try to extort their customers like this. I will do my own book keeping by hand on a stone tablet if necessary just to spite them.

Not in a million years do I want to put my confidential customer information online, this sounds like a paid advertisement

Personally I don’t think they’re going to get rid of desktop anytime soon. Ultimately I think they’ll probably end up selling it to another company. There are still some QSP’s that will sell the pro version of desktop, but they cannot “advertise“ it officially. I do agree there’s a push to get folks to move to the online version. There’s also more of a focus on the Mid Market product, the advanced subscription level. I just hope some of the smaller businesses don’t get left behind. If they do, then I’m here for them!

Been in business since 1987. I can't even remember WHEN we started using QB, but it's for as long as I can remember. Decades of data. I currently use QBDT Pro Plus 2020. I use 3 different accounts. Two separate businesses, and my personal. Online banking is CRITICAL for us. Question: Is Intuit going to charge us a separate fee for EACH account? Obviously QBD accommodates all three accounts with the one license.

This is so incredibly stupid. Not everyone is ok with having all their private information online. They could still do an annual plan without forcing people to give up their peace of mind by storing their own personal data. Microsoft does licensing without forcing you to be on a cloud.

1:37 I have desktop. Been using it for ove 15 years. I currently have Desktop Pro Plus. I just email statements and invoices to about 40 of the same customers every month. They are telling me that my subscription expires next month September 2023. Will I still be able to email invoices and statements after my subscription expires? I don't use any support. My needs are very basic, I just need to email statements and invoices. All my parts and supplies I keep as hard copies so I don't input that information. I just really use it for emailing my monthly customers. The emailing of statements is most important to me
