This cadence gets real. I remember the first time our Drill Sergeant sang it. "I left my son" hit particularly hard for the guy in front of me. He couldn't bring himself to sing another line.

The Drill Sergeant sounds like he has so much pain and emotion in his voice it makes it seem real.

Still gives me chills. Been 28 years 15 days since I left my home to join the Army.

This cadence is surprisingly deep. Basically it tells the story of a soldier who did die at war. His mama thought that he would die, his wife knew he would die, and his son... cried because his daddy died. Damn.... But the soldier, despite knowing of his impending demise, did what he needed to do to protect his wife and kids.

This is my drill sergeant, I graduated basic training today from fort Jackson South Carolina. He loves to sing this cadence. Ds Filmore can call cadences different.

I did 24 years in the Army and I have never heard any cadence and voice go this hard, now my son is also in the Army and the lyrics hit extremely different. Really felt this 🖤💪

This guy could lift the spirits of an entire regiment with his singing alone

Drill SGT is on the brink of losing his voice and still has more bars than most rappers today

I was never in the army but that line " I left my son playing in the yard..." was too much to hold my tears.

I’m no American nor in the army, but this hits me so hard (that) I can’t feel the air for a minute.
Hats off to the heroic souls.

I’ll never forget the day I left for basic, I was sitting down making coffee, my mom walked in the kitchen, me and her never really saw eye to eye on much, always had a strained relationship. I noticed her walk in and we stared at each other for a moment then she just completely broke down and I broke down too and we just hugged each other for a while. So when I got to basic and we started singing and the DS said “..my momma cried..” I stopped singing. Thank God she’s still around, that day our relationship got so much better.

I left my home - to join the army
I left my home - to join the army
The day I left - my mama cried
She though that I - would surely die
I left my wife - crying at the door
She knew that I - would die at war
I left my son - playing in the yard
Seeing daddy leave - made him cry so hard
The day I left - I shook my daddy’s hand
He said that I - had become a man

I've been out of the Army for 30 years and marching cadences like this still put fire in my soul! I'd do it all over again if I could go back in time.

Started looking into the Army after seeing this video trending. That was a couple years ago. Shipping to basic tomorrow.
Edit: made it!
