Cadence at basic training didn't just teach me how to sound off, it also taught me how to sing. A gift that my wife enjoys.

When I joined the army this was the first cadence I learned as a recruit. God bless the infantry.

When my son went into the army? I was so scared and cried and cried and prayed for God. Get him back home, get him back home, get all of them back home.

The military is one of the last places in the western world where things like this cadence are still passed, from one generation to the next, without ever being written down. I can sing this and many others word for word even though I’ve never seen them in writing. I learned them from my Drill Sergeant, who learned it from hers, who learned it from his.

I always get chills when I hear this cadence done like this. It's no wonder that some ancient army soldiers would sing as they went into battle. It's quite stimulating.

I'm 34 years old. from Los Angeles California. I have two kids. and all I want to do is make them proud. I never been in the military. And other than my kids I have nothing. Never had anything to my name. It's time that I do something important in my life. I've already talked to the military. And I start my whole journey in the next 2 weeks.
