My uncle was a Marine drill instructor. When my cousin was in the 9th grade he expressed an interest in enlisting in the Marines. So his Dad put him through a back yard boot camp each of the following three summers to prepare him. Basically, when he arrived at boot camp he had already done virtually everything expected in boot camp and then some. Today my cousin is getting ready to retire as a drill instructor after 20 years in the Marines. He plans to do the same thing with his oldest son who wants to make it three generations of Marines. He's in the 8th grade now and will be having his first summer of boot camp starting in June right after his Dad retires. Only thing is he's going to have two drill instructors training him.

As a dude with a shaving profile
I felt my own skin feel like it was tearing apart watching that dry shave

Wasn’t Marines, but Army. One of the worst sensations ever was waking up in the field in Basic and having to shave with a dull ass, single blade disposable razor and no shaving cream. Used that same razor for like a week. And THEN had to immediately put the chin strap over that skin. Every day was a fresh new hell.

Navy Boot. My entire company is stood out for a uniform inspection. As the normal I had a cold. At some point I lost the battle with snot. By the time the Lieutenant got to me the was snot almost down to my chin. The urge to wipe my face was so overwhelming.
He came up, looked at me and said "Recruit, is that snot running down your face?" I gave the standard 'Sir, Yes Sir!' and he gives me a look if half admiration, half horror and says "Outstanding Bearing!"

Learn to take “I & can’t” out of your vocabulary

Having a baby face during boot camp was a blessing. Seeing everyone rushing while I take my extra 5min to do whatever. Now it sucks being in the fleet not being able to grow a stache at all

Boot Camp is easy if you think about it. You just do what you’re told when you’re told. Make sure you shave 🪒, be in the correct uniform, pay attention to DIs, and be ready to workout, and wake up early. And also get used to people yelling in your face, it’s not going to kill you, you’ll be fine.

Best advice ever recieved "imagine the drills like a bunch of moms and aunties yelling at you, it's nothing"
