Early Christianity is so fascinating. It is so easy to presuppose that the Christianities and Bibles which exist today were inevitable but so many people had radically different ideas about Christianity and Jesus.

"Unlike the dry climate of Egypt, Long Island is not that" -- that's borderline Douglas Adams worthy writing there.

As a librarian, one with a deep interest in archives, the improper storage of the manuscript breaks my heart.

I am not a religious scholar, however I do self-educate and I do so with your videos as a spring board into higher levels of religious knowledge. Thank you for the energy and time that you put into these videos, they are absolutely fascinating and beneficial for a person like me.

old documents degrading makes me so mad. They just shouldn't be in private hands imo. So much has been lost already! At any rate, once again thanks for a lovely overview once again! your videos are always amazing and interesting to me

This alternate view of Jesus, Judas and the Apostles makes my head spin thinking about it from the perspective of politics, and the fact that the winners get to write the history. This video is fascinating.

I can't tell you how absolutely maddening it is that it was kept in a safety deposit box in new york, a place that has a significantly higher average humidity than that of egypt, and because of that, some of it was damaged and forever lost. just seems like it was done out of ignorance or negligence.

I read it recently, and it's one of the most fascinating gnostic texts (in my opinion); it really is a pity, could have been avoided.

I found a very old rebound copy of a prominent abolitionist novel once, and my first instinct was to preserve it in a large cigar box in an always dry room in my house until I could get it somewhere that will better preserve it.

How someone found a literal lost gospel—RECOGNIZED ITS SIGNIFICANCE as he tried selling it for millions after acquisition—and put it in a random safety deposit box blows my mind.

As a long time watcher (from when you were at a few hundred!), I want to say that I appreciate the video interludes and production quality upgrades you’re making slowly but surely 😊

*CORRECTION* around 00:15 into the video, when it is claimed that these non-canonical books “did NOT make it into the Bible” it should actually have said *many were in fact IN THE BIBLE, then REMOVED for various reasons* which is a very different thing.

It's always seemed strange to me that the crucifixion could be so essential for salvation and yet Judas be the betrayer. Like on some level it makes perfect sense, but it's like, okay, if he *didn't* do that, then what, no one gets salvation? So the idea that Jesus would instruct Judas to do it, but Judas still not be able to live with it afterwards does ring true to me.

The existence of wealthy collectors is so frustrating. What's the point of hoarding a bunch of stuff when you don't even know what it is?

Based on paintings Judas definitely had some personal space boundary issues

I went to a catholic private school for 5 years and this reminds me of our stranger danger alert. When we practiced it or whatever. If there was a stranger in the building, the front desk would say over the PA system "we would like to take a moment to say a prayer to Saint Judas" and I always thought it was a bit clever and a little funny. Idk

I really love those gnostic topics, it is so interesting to see how diverse Christianity actually is!

Fascinating. Whether by complexity and/or humanity's deceptive disposition, throughout my life I've experienced that a lot of concepts are actually very different than what's generally presumed. I chew on a great many things, but I never swallow.
