You absolutely must take your photo ID if you are using a birth certificate.
We went on our first cruise March 7th. We drove 4 hours on embarkation day got to check-in and my husband left his real id license at home on his nightstand. The kicker, the backup non real id, that was technically still valid, had been in my wallet but i had changed to a smaller purse and wallet for vacation.
The utter panic and stress of trying to reach my mom, who was at my house staying with my kids, to get it and send photos of it was not the way to start a vacation. We were extremely fortunate that they chose to accept his VA id card with pictures of his license from my mom.
Let me tell you, we got home on a Monday, that Saturday we were at a post office applying for passports.

Everyone please get a Passport. Print all documents, excursion and hotel even if you have it on your phone. I took my ten year old year granddaughter on Carnival and Royal. I didn’t need a notarized letter from her parents. She does have a passport maybe that why they didn’t ask for the letter 😌. Also check those credit cards a lot of them cover some parts of your cruise, luggage and airfare. It’s better to have more than less. Great vlog guys❤

Questions, if you are going on a closed loop sailing, does the passport still need to be valid for 6 months from the last day of travel as well?
2nd question, on a closed loop sailing, is a state issued driver's license alone sufficient, or do you also need to have a birth certificate?

My sister is traveling with her daughter, she's 14 and last names are different, but she is bringing her BC is that an issue? Also, is a letter needed from her father that is not going?

I am traveling with my minor child on a closed loop cruise in 2 weeks unfortunately father is not in picture but he has a different name from me on his birth certificate. Do I still need something notarized or me as the only parent with a different same but I am on the birth certificate be just fine?
