I love this set of sounds so much.... This is such a suspenseful sound if you play it that way, and it can ease up almost as soon as it tenses up. I love that

I don't know why, but I am always a little surprised when you bring out your piano playing chops. You are really quite good. The little Phrygian ditty you created here is really very evocative. A speecy, spicy meatball.

Phrygian is my all time favorite mode because of that b2 interval, another favorite minor scale of mine is the Hungarian minor scale, might be worth checking out if you haven't already.

I don't comment often, but this deserves an exception.
Please keep explaining things like this if possible, it was easy to understand and straight to the point.
I haven't found anyone explain this effectively how a mode (or anything for that matter) is mainly used, and why that main use works. In this case leaving out the 3rd to keep our ears guessing.
Thanks for the great video :)

That phrygian demo piece is absolutely gorgeous. So grateful I found your channel. You have the spice ive been looking for all along. I always tried to find ways of learning this sad/deep/dark style but I never knew how to search for it. I would come across things that werent quite what I was looking for. I always noticed it in movies how the soundtracks were so cinematic and now youve helped me understand the how and why. I'd love to get to the point where I can improvise like you on the keys. Thank you <3

Great sound design here, but some really beautiful and evocative musical improvisations also happening throughout the video. It is so important to get it in the music, and you nail it in this video. I love this mode, and utilize it in a similar way, but your thoughts/perspectives on it are useful and inspiring. Thank you...

Do find myself defaulting to Phrygian for most of the stuff I throw together! On the note of modes, one tip I have for mixing things up is to pick up a 12 sided and an 8 sided dice. Use the 12-sided one for the key, and the 8 sided for the mode (re-roll if 8). Great way to force yourself out of your comfort zone when it comes to keys and modes!

Some similar favourites: Phrygian Dominant, Double Harmonic, and also a spicy without a b2: Harmonic Minor. Any combination (doesn't have to be a scale; octatonic etc.) of is good of the following: b2, b3, 3, 4, Tritone, 5, b6, b7 and 7 is good. Chromatic runs like b7, 7, root can sound super cool, as well as thing like b3, 2, b2, root (although the natural 2 generally sounds a bit weird if you have a b2, unless you use it as a down or up passing note). Also, the chord tones of important scale degrees chords are important, so making sure that you include the 4 as well as the b2 is important, as it states the 3rd of the b2 chord (the same also applies to the b6, as this states the 5th of the b2 chord. (The chord tones of stand-out notes seem to be quite important to further emphasising the presence of the stand-out note. Don't know how universal across different modes this is, but it's definitely the case for Phrygian Dominant with it's unique bII chord.)

I really like your scale videos you've released the last few months. I've always used lydian a lot, think i drifted there from always really liking the major7b5 sound.

This really peaks my interest in phrygian - it's always been a bit too cliche metal spicy for me, but you're opening up a whole other dimension. Also really like the detail of the phrygian dominant. Keep up the good work. Hope you'll do more of these videos.
