When I heard the baby crying in the background all I could think was how lucky this baby is to have a most naturally talented teacher for a mom.

They say that when the student is ready the teacher comes, in your case, when an excellent teacher comes, the student is ready. Thank you so much.

This is the first time in my 39 years of studying and learning where anyone has explained clearly and logically why we use the melodic minor ascending and the natural minor when descending i.e. as the leading tone is only meaningful when approached from below. Kudos to you Gracie

I learned music theory at a very young age and none of it really meant anything to me. It is amazing that such talented teachers like Gracie can make such a difference some 60 years later. I'll also add that I am so impressed with the commenters here--you people are angels. Someone makes a negative comment and what I see in the responses is tolerance and patience. God bless you all.

"If you can't explain something simply, you don't understand it well enough". Seems like Gracie understands it very well. Love the logical approach as a first time viewer, and I will definitely be back for more.

I learnt more in this 42 minute lesson than 20 years of books. Without doubt the best teacher I have ever seen. Thanks for sharing your gift.

I was a teacher for 34 years and I have never seen such clear presentation. Thank you for making these topics so interesting and clear.

superlike! Years ago, I had only studied by reading notes on Western music as part of my music syllabus in Indian classical vocal, which had only left me confused. Youtube did not exist back then, neither did music blogs! Now your video has made everything crystal clear, so that I can answer my students' questions easily!! Thanks a million!!

I admire your teaching style. You can present a dry topic with precision and eloquence. There is no noise in my head because you teach with so much clarity. I'll be coming back.

Third time watching just as a review. I just took a quiz practice of AP Music Theory. Your whiteboard helped me get 15 out of 15. Merci.

Absolutely brilliant. I have spent 50 years, and a lot of trying to find out in books, trying to understand what you've just explained. My phobia is lifted! Thank you so much.

I have a distinct memory of getting in an argument with a music theory person over the concept of “if it sounds good, it is good” and I love that you repeat it multiple times like it’s so simple and obvious.

Thank you Gracie. Having minored in music at a highly-selective university, I can say that you teach much better than my uni professors ever did.

I sincerely hope there are people in this world fortunate enough to have you as a private teacher. I certainly wish I had been so fortunate back in the day.
