How Often Should You do Yoga? - Yoga Tips!

With a fitness-centric yoga program, you can expect noticeable results - mostly in your overall physical feeling, energy & stress levels, and its impact on your other fitness activities - within your first month. (People who do Man Flow Yoga consistently usually report noticeable improvements after their first ten consistent workouts).

Following an effective yoga program over time can yield even more significant results, including:
Increasing flexibility and mobility
developing core strength & body awareness
dramatic weight loss
improved body composition
building muscle mass
and much, much more - especially when combined with effective dieting & nutrition, sleep, and stress management.

How often you’ll need to do yoga depends on a variety of factors, including:
Your existing workout routine (if any)
Your fitness goals
Your current fitness level
And probably a few more minor things I won’t mention here.

My recommendation, based on the people that I’ve worked with in person and the thousands of people that I’ve trained through my online programs - is the following:

If yoga is NOT your only workout, complete at least 2-3 yoga sessions per week for a minimum of 60-100 minutes of yoga per week. The yoga you do should focus on aspects of fitness NOT covered in your other workouts, typically including: mobility, flexibility, balance, breathing, restorative stretching, and body awareness.

If yoga is your only workout, aim for at least 20-30 minutes of yoga, 6 days per week. If necessary, you can start with 3 days per week for your first month. As your fitness level increases, you can increase that to 40-70 minutes per day. (Be sure to also include essential exercises NOT included in yoga, such as pulling or rowing exercises, overhead press, and grip strength - I’ll go into deeper detail about this subject in the “If Yoga Is Your Only Workout” section below.) -

I have beat up my body for decades with higher impact, HIIT, and traditional workouts. I am 57 and have osteoarthritis. I am finding Yoga daily is the best way for me to go now. I am just too sore from the old way I used to train. Yoga leaves me feel mobile, relaxed and happy...not stiff, worn out and grumpy. I was practicing yoga 2 days a week but will be increasing it because it makes me feel great. I still enjoy walking and cycling too.

Yoga is surprisingly intense ... If I do an hour and a half session I get an overtrained response (anxiety, grouchiness, listlessness, etc.). I think 45 min per day is a good rule of thumb if you're including intense poses. Just my two cents from doing it for years.

I have been doing yoga for 9 years. Two sessions per week, approximately 90 minutes, each. I am not doing other exercising, except walking, swimming.
I am not sure if this is sufficient, but it has helped me a lot.

Hi MFY, I practice 10 - 30 minutes each evening, mostly stretching and slow movements, along with 10 mins 3 - 4 times a week, plus 2 40 minute bike rides and a body boarding session or 2-3 hour walking session, plus of cores walk the dog each day for 20 - 60 minutes. I still feel achy in legs, no matter how much yoga I do. I'd love to know more about how to relieve achy legs and psoas. Thank you ❤️

i practice mostly beginner-intermediate ashtanga yoga 5-7 days a week for 30-45 minutes a day. no other exercise as of now except for walking through trails every few weeks. do you think this is sufficient? i try to incorporate cardiovascular movements through vinyasa flows/sun salutations as well as strength building through holding poses and balancing.

Thank you. I do 4/5 30 minute yoga sessions one week then the following I run once a week and do 3/4 20 min sessions. I have noticed a difference with my body as in it has become more toned. I am.wondering whether to add in another 30 minute yoga session as I love it so much but don't want to overdrawn, what do you think?

Dean, recently on a 30 day challenge video you mentioned that you have been doing TRX in addition to yoga. I know that this is a yoga channel, but I bet there would be considerable interest in a short series on your TRX workouts.

I am 13 yr old boy. I have been physically active, variety of sports mainly hockey and baseball. I have been doing mostly body weight exercises and just started light weight circuit training with my Dad and two brothers. We have been discussing yoga as an option, so this brought me to your channel. Any suggestions welcome. Thank you for your time.

I exercise 5 times a week for 35-45 min and usually do Yoga everyday for 20-30min. I don’t think I will change anything in the exercise department but I would love to get more flexible and love yoga so I am drawn to do it everyday, is it a good idea to extend to 45min sessions a few times a week? A mix between short sessions and one or two longer ones? Thank you for your video ☺️🙏
