NHL 24 Review - The Final Verdict

NHL 24 takes steps to put the intense feel and physicality of ice hockey right into the hands of players. New gameplay systems such as the Exhaust Engine add a fresh tactical dimension to proceedings, and with brutal body checks and skill moves now mappable to the controller’s face buttons taking to the ice in NHL 24 is as exhilarating as ever.

However, there are still certain game modes that demand a refresh at this point, and some of NHL 24’s touted new innovations, such as Vision Passing, aren’t new at all. The jury’s out on whether some of these new systems are even required at all. Still, NHL 24 is a solid entry in EA Sports’ ice hockey franchise, and worth diving in if you haven’t played a recent NHL title.

As an annual NHL title player I can tell everyone that if you can wait just 30 days after release. Right around mid to late November every single year the game goes on sale for at least 50% off! Its been that way for the last 3+ years and I expect the same this year. I have waited and have been okay with paying $30-$50 rather than $80+

This is not just a reskin, they totally messed up all the fundamentals, stick handling, passing, hitting are all glitchier and more rough around the edges this year, majority of goals scored are ugly broken plays or weak shots dribbling through the goalie

Something happened really bad from PS3 to PS4...the evolution of the games really got sidetracked in 2014...its maddening and sad.

I'm glad they added checking over the boards but I hate how they make it seem like a new feature. There constantly putting this stuff in the taking it away the next game. I remember when one of the big selling features was the goalies fighting eachother which was cool, then the next game it was gone, same with checking people into the bench, or through the glass, or breaking the glass etc. They just take it out then a few year's later add it back in like it's a new feature. Just leave all that stuff in already! I really wish other developer's still made sport's game's besides EA. Competition is a good thing but when you are the only one making sport's game's you get too comfortable & lazy like EA!

Can’t bring myself to buy any EA games anymore. It’s definitely been a good 5 years. It’s a shame because they used to be mandatory purchases.

No mention of how goalies and their new animations are over the top and react badly in situations where it isn't needed. Presentation in general feels the same minus a louder crowd, new announcer, and hearing sandstorm 50+ times a game. Depending on the arena, the light show can be absolutely terrible and can't be modified in any way (Good luck in Edmonton). Intros are the same as last year. HUT is essentially the same in every negative way minus moments which still doesn't help it.

Gameplay can be "good" but if there is no depth, why bother playing? Another 8 out of 10 score review from yet another location where they really don't deep dive into the game. Gotta make EA happy to get them review copies.

Been playing for about a month with pro career. I've come to realize the basics. If the game wants you to lose you will lose. The frequency of goals scored against your team when you aren't even on the ice is ridiculous. If you cause a penalty the other team almost always scores. Your defense often does not engage and allows them to skate right down the middle to the net. Your goalie won't grab a puck sitting right next to him and sometimes doesn't even attempt to move when the other team is shooting and also flails out of positon for the easiet of shots to defend.

This review right here is exactly how you know these reviews are paid for....how would this game be a 8/10 when they literally made no changes to any offline modes they barely made changes to online modes other then taking away hockey bags like be real this game is a 3 at best and ir you & ea actually listened to the community you'd kno we've been asking for changes to be a pro especially for 4 years they didn't even remove the old cutscene's hell that would be a improvement by its self

I haven't played an NHL title in over 20 years, and my goodness, THIS IS INCREDIBLE! Sometimes it takes seeing the forest through the trees to appreciate how far games have come.

Playable warm ups sounds like a cool idea, but realistically we'd all skip it after the first handful of games

Heard they're giving us the option to go back to hybrid control buttons in next update

The pressure system has such potential.
However
the visual effects on the ice take me away
from the realism they have been trying to
achieve for years. The pressure system can
be in effect without the meter being visual
on the ice. It could be added to the boards
Or in my opinion nowhere at all. You will
know you have filled the meter to the max
once you see the defending team struggling

Just got the $100 dollar version for 30 bucks. First. NHL I’ve gotten since 20. Hopefully it’s good

Both teams wearing home jerseys in the Ari/Pit gameplay hurts my brain 😅

I tried the EA trial and I could only stomach about five minutes before I uninstalled the trial from my ps5

Haven't played a hockey game since NHL 97. 93 and 94 were awesome as well.

Giving it an 8 while also saying it’s not worth it to purchase is actually crazy

NHL 24 just doesn't feel good to play imo. Everything feels kinda sloppy. The pressure system is very easy to exploit as well.

Long story short: Stop giving EA your money.
