Sap, Blackjack & Slungshot History: Pocket Sap

Collection and description of possibly the most forgotten group of weapons in history. Leather saps, blackjacks and slungshots were used by cops, criminals, soldiers and sailors for centuries. I call this one a pocket sap and it's the only one quite like it that I've seen.

I used the Denver sap back in the early 80s with the DPD. Today I still use it in my pre retirement public position. It is the best close counter weapon made. It ends any confrontation.

I made a slightly smaller (as i didnt have enough lead) version of this sap after watching the video though mine is one piece of leather after making it and holding it etc I'm pretty sure the stitched loop is a repair after the strap snapped. the folded bend is the weakest part of the strap so much like the front repair I'm almost positive the back was snapped, they cut it flat and stitched it back together.

Look up how leather is stitched they use a stitch called a saddle stitch that when a thread breaks it doesn't all come undone

Lately i have been interested in sinew and gut for making cordage and sewing.
Do you know if these materials were used for sewing saps in the past?

I like this one. I think I’ll make one of these, but with one piece of leather so there’s no stitching at the strap.👍
