Yes, the 250 Rebel is slow, underpowered, small. I got it because I needed a bike right away and it was available at the $ level I had.
It is absolutely the most forgiving bike on the road and is virtually kill proof.
The 300 is a definite upgrade an fuel injection and abs are nice touches.
But, if you want a combo city bike- cruiser, the 500 will keep you going without need for an upgrade for a number of Summers. For us shorties, that should be just fine.
[Plus we can wave at Spike's Harleys sitting on the side of the road as we pass. 😀😃].

My first bike was a Rebel 500. It is a great beginner bike. At 6’3” I had a little discomfort riding it for more than 45min, but still a fun bike.

The Rebel's fuel consumption averages 52–62.6 mpg‑US (4.52–3.76 L/100 km; 62.4–75.2 mpg‑imp), with refills needed at around 190 miles (310 km).[3] The 1996 Rebel had the best fuel economy, 62.6 miles per US gallon (3.76 L/100 km; 75.2 mpg‑imp), of the 352 past and current models tested in the 2010 Motorcycle Consumer News (MCN) Performance Index.[2] By 2012, the 1996 Rebel's fuel economy had been exceeded by several models on the MCN Performance Index, led by the Yamaha Virago 250 at 66.9 mpg‑US (3.52 L/100 km; 80.3 mpg‑imp).[5] Its maximum speed is 70 miles per hour (110 km/h), and 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 km/h) time is 11.86 seconds, with a 0 to 1⁄4 mi (0.00 to 0.40 km) time of 17.86 seconds at 68.55 mph (110.32 km/h).[2] Its wet weight is 320 lb (150 kg).[2]

I bought the 2020 Rebel 300 as my first bike and absolutely loved the bike. It did what it was designed to do. It introduced me to the motorcycle world and got me riding and eventually earn my endorsements. I’ve just a couple weeks ago traded her back in for the glorious 2020 CBR650R.

daily rider here since 16 now 27 started 2009 sv650 owned two yamaha r1's one yamaha stratalinor and now for fun around town one 2007 honda rebel thats bobbed out. never owned an actual vehicle. i have a blast on my honda rebel and can tear it up like a dirtbike has 60k miles now and never had an issue running but i will always say a 250 rebel is actually for expert riders if you are a begginer rider only go for the rebel 500 a bike that only goes 70-75 mph requires alot of road knowledge because being a non seen agile machine you need something that can move you out of a cars way quickly. love your channel!

My first bike was a 2019 rebel 500. At 5'8" and 330. I had it for a year, and tore up the curves! I got it up 86 mph

Pretty good review.. as a Texas MSF mechanic ( not an instructor) I have to say, out of all the 250/300s... its surprisingly torquey. It doesnt look like a small engined bike, . It's short, stubby, but it's still...ahem " full size" and brutish
Looking. It. Simply looks like a much larger( engined) bike. Depending on how you see things, that is a plus, or a negative. Here are a couple bonuses for it.. it's an excellent beginner bike, and an excellent MSF course bike. ( here is my take) we HAD late model ninja 250s. They NEVER got used, and my boss got tired of me working on the carbs, so we dismantled, or sold them off..why? Instructors said " great bike for entry level/experienced commuting, but not for teaching at the range". By the time, usable RPM on the ninja 250s was reached, students were way WAY past safety markers.

Nothing “ dorky “ about the Honda Rebel 500. Plenty of power for City and Highway riding and I get so many compliments on my bike! It’s a great middle weight bike !!

Honda 500 is a great looking bike and perfect for city life. With electronics, all bikes are reliable and would rarely leave you stranded in the side of the road. Buy a bike that looks good to you, period. Do not worry about the specs. Middle weight bikes are the Goldilocks bikes.

I like it when he says

@1:01 "I will literally reach through the screen and slap you" followed by a picture of Will Smith has aged amazingly well.

The new Honda Rebels are dope! Remember the first one I saw in person parked outside the college bars on Fry Street in Denton, TX. Vast improvement in styling over the previous version. Can't go wrong with a Rebel 300 if you're looking for an entry level bike.

I’ve been watching your videos for about 2.5 years. Your the one that got me into biking and I just got my first bike yesterday, a ninja 400 abs in white! Excited to ride

Today I began my MSF like course (I'm Canadian). I for the 1st time I ride on a motorcycle. It was a beautiful battleship grey Honda Rebel 300. As I exercised myself on the bike, I started to appreciate it. Break time came to quickly and I decided to look at my phone. Sweet only one notification : "YouTube showing me yammie noob video about the lame rebel"... 🤣

Having a 27" inseam, even with all the reach options I don't find the vulcan comfortable at all. Test rode both and loved the rebel. Also depends on what miles you do, for me, anything over 40ish and I go in the car, my bike is for hopping around and fun, nothing serious, the Rebel 500 is perfect for that.
