I've been having trouble with the middle strings weirdly enough, but I'm still practicing! You've been my favorite youtube guide so far. And I'm only about 1 week in and these have all been so helpful!!

There is an exercise i do as a warmup:

Go to the 5 or 7 fret and barre the top 2 strings, hold it for a few seconds.
Then barre 3 strings, 4 strings, 5 then all 6.

Then move to another position and repeat.

The goal is to do it with all 4 fingers. It really makes your hand strong.

Finally a actual useful tip to learn the f chord.

A lot of times, especially with cheaper, starter guitars, the difficulty might be the nut. If the nut isn't cut to the proper depth, you will have a much harder time making barre chords in the first position.

Fun thing about learn to play the guitar, no one can actually tell you how hard it can be. Yes learn a few chords, play a simple song, but to really play music, is very very hard. I love the struggle, i and hate it as much as i love it. Thats from a person, whom has spent 15 years on racing bicyle on a national competative level. Its Hard, but the benefits wastly overtakes the struggle.

Ten months. TEN MONTHS I've been learning the guitar. Finally was able to make a successful F barre chord two days ago. Right after I switched my strings to 11s. 😂

the problem is that when i barre, for example, B chord, when i bar my index finger on the 1-5 strings in the second fret, the others that should touch 2-4 strings of 4th fret can just barely reach it

You are awesome.

Such practical advice. Start up the neck for practice.

You even mentioned developing a finger long callous.

Learn how to barre first like a capo, then add in other fingers.

Awesome and practical.

Once the bane of my existence, now I look down on them with scorn and merriment!

Took me a time to consistently hit the F chord. Don't give up! If I can get it, anyone can. Now the challenge is switching betwwen other chords and the F chord quickly. Tiny steps. 🙂

I remember they were hard when I first started. I was probably determined to get the hang of them because so many of my favorite song use them.

Yep found if i add more meat on the first finger to the B and C (correction B and E strings) works, proberly wasn't placing it right in the first place lol gets a little harder on the B minor barre chord

As someone who has repeatedly attempted to progress but sadly been unable to. I’m Loving these advice tips which I haven’t heard before. Thanks!

I struggled until I spotted how Brian Jones (Rolling Stones) held his guitar when playing barre chords -more or less straight up. Similar to how Slash holds his guitar during solos. Once I tried that position my thumb and first finger fell into the perfect position of opposition, and everything rang clear as a bell. Even now, if I drop the guitar head to the horizontal position my barre chords are much harder to hold due to the thumb being out of position.

What is a capo for ? Fifty years ago I don’t remember seeing it.

I actually have much more trouble near the 12th fret. Do you think maybe its a setup issue?

You’re a great teacher. I am able to do bar chords, and ring all strings but I am unable to change them 😅

It's easier, if you let a longer part of your index finger ( c. 1 cm ) extend beyond the top of the fretboard - and curve the index finger a little as well.
