WHY DO YOUNG BULGARIANS LEAVE? - LIFE IN BULGARIA

Some people may dislike this video but it is something that needs to be said...Disclaimer: THIS VIDEO IS AIMED TOWARDS YOUNG BULGARIANS. After receiving countless messages from young intelligent Bulgarians asking whether or not they should leave/Bulgarians trying to explain to me that Bulgaria is not a good place to build a business/work I decided to debunk this myth using not only my own example, but the example of the many successful young Bulgarians I know. This is not to say life isn't difficult for some. Life is difficult world wide. However the purpose of this video is to try explain that leaving the country will only make the issue worse. Bulgaria is full of opportunity and the sooner young people and digital nomads realise this the sooner we can build something great.

Здравей Джамал, следя клиповете ти от доста време и честно казано повече млади хора трябва да ги гледат. С твое позволение бих искал да постна клипа ти в Българския Събредит, където е пълно с млади хора, които трябва да чуят съобщението ти.

Hey Jamal! Actually I have been living in the United States for the past 14.5 years (half my life)... I decided to end that and return to Bulgaria for good! Starting from 0... there is so much potential everywhere and with everything! People need to believe in themselves!! Thank you for the great video! :) Hope to run into you in Bulgaria :)

I left two years ago my motherland - Bulgaria, and currently I’m studying in Wales. However, after two years I am absolutely sure that after my graduation I am coming back. Keep going with your cool videos, I am proud to have people like you in my country!

As a Venezuelan living in Plovdiv, I totally agreed with you, I love Bulgaria and I prefer living here than in Spain or any other country, because Bulgaria has so much to offer, the culture, the food, the people, its just amazing, also Bulgarian's yogurt is the best by far, and right now I couldn't imagine my life without сирене, I've also learned and tried a lot of new things here, nevertheless, sometimes I feel like Bulgarians do not realize the beautiful country they have . . .

Евала, братле! Thanks for making such a good video. Often if a bulgarian tries to put such a point across, we get looked at as if we don't know what we're talking about. I think it sounds more convincing coming from a foreigner. Glad you share this point of view and hope you continue enjoying your life here. Cheers!

Thank you for voicing my thoughts, Jamal! I've been living for 26 yrs in the USA (California), and I must say America becomes bigger and bigger disappointment every day. Things were different in the 90's, then it made sense to be abroad, and the USA was a much better place. But at the turn of the century, and especially after 2007, Bulgaria has turned a corner. Every time I come back, it looks better. I couldn't be more excited for my country's future. It's funny when I watch on the BG news how people get worked up over daily life things that exist on a much bigger scale in the "normal" countries. I am old enough to remember that people were talking the same stuff during communist times, only very quietly because it was dangerous to complain too much. Of course, now that it is safe, people are doing it loud and clear. Maybe trying to state some identity? That's my sarcasm. It took me way too long to realize that Bulgarian nihilism is just some sort of a weird national sport. Like the Greeks dodging taxes. The problem is that young people are listening to all that negative narrative, and being programmed from an early age that their country is a lost case, there's no future for them in it, better go pick up strawberries in the UK, etc. All false, ridiculous, stupid bs, but they leave. Some, after a few years, reevaluate things and come back. Mark my words, within 10 years Bulgaria (and Romania) will be some of the best places to live in Europe! Смейте се колкото искате, но ще говорим пак след 10 години!

Bulgaria is a wide open opportunity for anyone who wants to make a go of it. Cheap plentiful housing with large gardens perfect for self-sufficiency, low cost of living, beautiful surroundings, nature, etc, etc.

As a Bulgarian (from Plovdiv ;) ) student in Leeds, I can really say that the culture or ''soul'' in the UK (and I imagine in other Western European countries as well), or more like the lack of it, is something that really bothers me and something I couldn't quite cope with for the almost 2 years I've been there. People just don't really seem to care about you and don't want to connect with you unless you love watching football and going out to pubs. They don't seem very emotionally expressive and would rather keep their distance from you, without establishing a deeper connection, whether it be just a friendship or more. All of my friends there are either other Bulgarians or foreigners. That's specifically my experience, of course, as I know other Bulgarians who have English friends, but most people I've talked with feel the same like me. While you can make good money in the UK, I don't feel most Bulgarians would feel happy there in the long-run. It's just not for everybody.

As an American who moved here to Bulgaria, I get a lot of the same questions but not just from younger Bulgarians, I get the 'Whay Bulgaria... But at the end of the day, I think you are right. I love it here, one of the big reasons I chose to live here is my wife is Bulgarian; I'm sure I've mentioned that in a previous comment on another video. The cost of living here compared to where I come from is way way lower for me, medical is significantly more affordable, as in the health insurance. My wife and I moved up to the mountains back in Dec of this last year, I have the most beautiful view from my office window where I work from home (online). If I were back in the states I would be looking at an egg shell colored wall in a room with thick drapes and no sunlight.

you make me happy! I love you and watching this just got me even more excited to come back to my homeland! I'm currently living in London and I know what you mean, it's not as glamorous as they say and make it seem. I have decided to follow my intuition, my gut feeling and move back to Bulgaria with a purpose to empower women and make them feel confident and sexy through dance. My boyfriend is also coming to Bulgaria and I am so excited for him to see it! Thank you for this amazing video <3
