ABOUT A TO ZEN LIFE
Along my journey to let go of 30 years of clutter, I accidentally became a minimalist and it was life-changing.

Before, I was an emotional hoarder with nothing but the clutter from lost loved ones — and $25,000 of debt — to my name. Now I have a beautiful home in Europe, a happy family, live debt-free, and — best of all — wake up to a life that I’m EXCITED to live every day.

If you are on the fence about an item of clothing, wear it. Just wear it while you do errands or even just around the house (obviously doesn't apply to cocktail dresses and fancy clothes). Pretty soon you will know if you hate it, it doesn't fit, etc. This has helped me a lot.

Less is more. Stop buying and start living. So glad to see more and more people spread the message! Thanks Marissa!

I am Autistic and ADHD and have pretty bad executive dysfunction. Something that helps me is thinking about very small steps. Sometimes it's as basic as: put feet on the ground, stand up, walk to kitchen, drink water... and then thinking about and doing those really basic things can help with even the worst of inertia to do something like put away dishes, clean dishes... and sometimes that will lead into decluttering or a rearrangement of my living room.

Also another thing that has helped me is to try and think in percentages. I can't always give everything to every day. But it's an accomplishment even if its 1%, 5%, 20% and I end up having to stop.

I like the small chunk methods because it's a lot more doable. The big decluttering cleaning projects just don't happen for me often and I can't force or coax myself into that kind of state because it's a high energy state I don't normally operate at.

I just filled the back of the car with all my donations to take in on Tuesday when they open. I also set a reminder in my phone to take it all in first thing Tuesday morning!

I break down my chores from easiest to hardest, . That way I'm not thinking of those little things still pending while I'm working on the long hard one.

The paradox of choice!!! I knew options overwhelm us, but did not know there is a psychological name for it. So helpful. Thank you

I wish I had your videos when I was raising my five children. I was the deer in headlights 😂 but I’m a grandmother now and working hard and certainly can’t retire…. But, I’m listening and decluttering to your advice. Boy! It feels good 👍🏻 😊

This is so helpful and relevant to other areas of my life too. I wanted to drop a tip that has helped me, a procrastinahoarder. Sometimes I do a “Quick 5” where I just sort out or throw away or put away 5 items. It seems really small but if you do it a couple times a week, it does make a dent. I’ve been able to do it during a commercial break.

I heard it called productive procrastination. I love that.

I tackled my garage this week and sent 2 car loads to the Salvation Army (and filled up my trash can!) It looks and feels GOOD! (I did my last huge clean-out in 2016!) Oh and....my 'time will tell' bin - got DONATED! lol!

I actually ran across a fruit/salad recipe a couple of years ago that has tomatoes, watermelon, and cilantro in it. It was amazing!

Newton’s First Law of Motion is actually one of my life mottos. It is so true that once we actually get up and moving, it becomes so much easier to do what we need to do.

I clean a room top to bottom and declutter it while I'm cleaning. My dining room looks like a dining room now. My living room is soooo spacious now. My kitchen is next week.

Laborit's Law is my favourite and one I've followed for most of my life. When I have a big pile of things to do, I always do the thing I hate/don't want to do/find most difficult first. Everything else becomes a breeze.

This is something i needed to hear right now.. i've been doing decluttering for 10 months now and I recently feel so sick and tired because I badly wanted to remove all the clutter right away.. that chunk by chunk method is something that will definitely help me.. thanks for the reminder!

The follow up plan for when things go wrong is definitely something I'm going to try. This is a challenge for me as a perfectionist personality and I can easily be discouraged if I'm overwhelmed. Thank you for the informative video ❤

Yes things have gone wrong here at times. So many "snow days" here in Canada where I had the kids at home when I thought they'd be at school and I could tackle a big project. 😂 My daughter has become helpful with the decluttering so that helps. My ADHD means I've been terrible with procrastination in the past but timers definitely help. Love this smart video Marissa ☺️

YES YES!!!! This is what I tell my mom all the time (planning and doing just a few minutes per day or week). What an intelligently planned video and well executed too.
