ABOUT A TO ZEN LIFE
Along my journey to let go of 30 years of clutter, I accidentally became a minimalist and it was life-changing.

Before, I was an emotional hoarder with nothing but the clutter from lost loved ones — and $25,000 of debt — to my name. Now I have a beautiful home in Europe, a happy family, live debt-free, and — best of all — wake up to a life that I’m EXCITED to live every day.

Today Oct 17th, I got rid of 1 photo album, 88 old junk photos, 4 magazines, 1 tote bad, tore up old receipts. Since March 2022, I've got rid of over 125 items out of my home. I've been writing down the items.
Proud of myself.

I have been on a journey to declutter for about 7 years now, which sounds like a long time to people who see my home now but they didn't see my home 7 years ago. Decluttering really is a marathon not a sprint for many people. The key is consistency. Dedicating a week here and there to do big purges is always really satisfying, but it's the daily choices and habits that determine if those big purges will truly be a success or not.

These videos are such great little reminders at how important those little, consistent actions are.

A trick I have for closets is I put my hangers backward at the beginning of the year and when I wear something I put it back the right way. After a year has gone by all the clothes that are still on the hangers that were backwards are donated.

I totally agree on being ruthless with clothing. On The Minimalist’s podcast a caller said that when she has trouble getting rid of clothing, she asks herself, “If I had the opportunity to wear this clothing item, would I reach for something else instead?” I thought it was a good way to determine clothing preferences and sorting out what you like and what you actually wear.

Decluttering has been game-changing for me. I'm a mom of three who ended up in a wheelchair (long story!). Taking care of stuff is harder when you're disabled and in pain, so I concluded I should get rid of as much stuff as possible. Midway through my home overhaul, I discovered your channel. Thanks for keeping me company through many hours of decluttering!

My decluttering story: no kids. Currently decluttering my moms flat and my flat. And for the rest of my life, doesnt matter if long or short, im devoting my time, energy, space and money to myself. Healing myself from all the trauma i endured. Not producing more mess.

I appreciate that you always emphasize the importance of not bringing in the stuff to begin with. I honestly regret buying 90% of my possessions. The only thing I buy now is nutritious foods and necessities like TP.😅

Little guy... hope he feels better! 🙏
Talking about overwhelming... we evacuated from the hurricane just recently and had to relocate for a while...
It surely puts everything in perspective... when nothing that is replaceable truly matters, as long as we're all fine 🙂

I've always been pretty minimalist & want to do a massive declutter. Unfortunately, my husband likes to hold onto almost everything for "just in case" due to previous hardships he's been through. Hope to find a balance ♡

My psychiatrist told me the reason of my accumulation of stuff (CLOSE TO HOARDING) was because of my losses I had in my life. I was holding on to stuff because I could control that. I had made the thought of getting rid of stuff (I didn’t need) as another loss.
I am STILL in the process of decluttering. I have given away about 10 garbage bags (the BIG yard bags) of clothes and shoes. Now, I am working on the useless things I have… like from boyfriends I didn’t love, or little things (like tickets from Universal Studios, T-shirt’s with holes from when I used to live with my dad (daddy didn’t buy this tshirt though), etc etc. It is harder for me than it should be. I have to get in the right mental space and just do it

Notes for me -

1. Keep a trash bag handy and keep putting things in it without worrying about organising/cleaning.
2. Create a drop zone.
3. Donate what’s not needed.
4. Set a timer
5. Re homing basket to put things at their place later.
6. Listen to YouTube / podcasts.
7. Before and after pictures.

Thank you for this! I filled and tossed 2 trash bags today, and put a small dent in it, then crawled back into my *dent* I have made in my bed which is my comfort zone. My reaction to dumping the stuff tells me I have a little problem I wasn't aware of, but the extra space is lovely tbh. I am 51 and think life has manifested into a "stuff" thing, so since 2 bags "exhausted" me, will tackle more later but I feel like this is a start! Thank you for helping a total stranger.

I discovered your chanel recently and watched one video a day to motivate me to declutter. I then put on a 10min timer on my iPhone and played my favourite songs on Spotify. When the ten minutes are up, the music stopped playing and I’m done with my decluttering for the day. It started as a 30 day challenge, but felt more like a habit now..😊

I don’t know exactly how, but you can take me from completely unmotivated and complacent to motivated and inspired every video. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing your story. I am decluuttering as part of the grieving process, which goes beyond getting rid of stuff to have a nicer looking home.

How true about stopping the inflow of clutter! I often used to go out & buy things or buy things online I didn't really need, which not only was a waste of money, but also was continuously adding to the clutter! I am now much more careful about casual shopping. Same with thrift stores, there's such a temptation to pick up a couple more items after dropping off some clutter...

It's so true! I go to the thrift store to drop off stuff & go in to see what they have. I always end up with 1-2 items that I take back home. I never really thought about it!
