Who Carries The Ark of the Covenant?

Показать описание
Having redeemed the lives of the firstborn of Israel with the lives of the Levites, The LORD gave them particular tasks with strict instructions. He had sanctified them to these important duties. To ensure they did not die, He told them how to do their jobs.
The sons of Kohath were responsible for the most holy objects - the Ark, menorah, altar of incense , and the other furnishings of the sanctuary. When the tabernacle was torn down to move it, the sons of Aaron were to go in, take down the veil and cover the Ark with it. It would then be covered with skins. They would cover the table, menorah, and altar with blue cloth and skins. All the utensils were to be covered with skins. Eleazar, son of Aaron, was responsible for the anointing oil, incense, and grain offerings. His sons were to cover these objects inside the sanctuary.
Once the sons of Aaron were done covering everything properly, then the sons of Kohath could come and carry them. Aaron had to do his job so the sons of Kohath did not die. This was extremely important. They could not even look at them uncovered for a moment or they would die. This is why when King David had the Ark moved on a cart and Uzzah reached out his hand and touched it, he died. So David placed the Ark in the house of Obed Edom, a Kohathite, to store it until he could determine what to do next.
The sons of Gershon were to carry the tent coverings and curtains. The sons of Aaron would assign them their individual tasks and appoint each man a portion to remove, pack, and carry. All of this was under the direction of Ithamar, son of Aaron.
The sons of Merari had the task of disassembling the structure and carrying the parts. This was also assigned under the direction of Ithamar. Each son of Merari had his individual pieces to care for and carry. Pillars, boards, sockets, tent pegs, cords and more were assigned to individual men to remove and reassemble.
The Levites assigned the work to men aged 30 to 50. The rest were exempted from service. Of those assigned, there were 8,580 men, more than enough to perform the task. This service was done just as the LORD commanded.
