Even Better Videos!
In this video, we explore the incredible world of the wolverine, the largest and probably the strongest modern-day mustelid alive. Wolverines are known for their tenacity and fearless attitude, capable of fighting off packs of wolves and even scaring off bears. They have been seen taking down massive elks, which are way bigger than themselves. But all this pales in comparison to its supersized ancestor, the megalictis ferox. #wolverine #wolverineanimal #mustelids #animalfacts #honeybadger #megalictisferox
During the Miocene epoch, over 5 million years ago, the megalictis ferox roamed all over North America, and it was an absolute unit, weighing up to 120kg or 264 pounds, making it the largest ever recorded member of the mustelid family. This monster was able to cope with animals several times larger than itself, such as the gigantic Daeodon.
Research suggests that the megalictis ferox waited in ambush and grappled with its prey, rather than hunting it down by pursuit. Its abnormally large head indicates that it also had an incredible bite force to match its enormous body proportions.
