In this video I am going to be teaching you how to breathe and push in labour. You will learn another hypnobirthing breathing technique called down breathing.

You can use the down breathing technique for labour to help you give birth to your baby smoothly.

It is very important to practice your Down Breathing technique during pregnancy by yourself as well as with your birth partner. Your birth partner can get fully involved with this labour breathing technique by saying some calming words like "relax, let go, calm, peace or surrender"

The more that you practice this hypnobirthing breathing exercise in pregnancy the easier it will be for you to do it automatically during your labour. I also recommend that you practice this labour breathing exercise when you are sitting on the toilet doing a poop. Doing a poo and giving birth to your baby both work with your body's natural expulsion reflexes. You shouldn't have to forcefully strain and tense up when you poop or give birth so doing your Down breathing on the toilet can help you understand how to be relaxed as you expel something from your body.

I really like your videos, they are easy and clear to understand. I was a bit confused with the up and down breastfeeding before, so you help me clarify things. However, I just want to say that your previous down breathing video with the J technique, is more informative, especially when you explained the role of the birth partner.... In any case, thank you very much.

Actually since I learn to breathe like this I never had trouble with pooping (constipation).

Hi Anja. When you're breathing down, do you push at the same time?

Hi Anja, I'm a homebirth midwife who recently started working in the hospital, where all of our mommas have epidurals. Do the J breathing and down breathing work well with epidurals? I'm finding myself having moms close their mouth for the first time to give them more strength with pushing and I'm looking for a more gentle, but effective approach. Thank you!

Could the "horse lips" technique also be used like this?
