Most Honest Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K Full Frame Review!
BMCC6K

I had the camera for just over a month (actually multiple bodies) and did all kinds of testing referenced in the video which you can also find here:

My Recommended alternative cameras at best prices (as of 24.11.2023):

(Note I have no affiliation with the links bellow in any shape or form and some of them may or may not be grey market so make decisions on your own behalf I am just sharing what I personally would buy.)

If you still want the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K after watching the whole video - then get it and get it quick! They are running a Black Friday Deal where you get a free EVF with it... (I ordered it just before my luck.....)

The most honest review on YouTube! Great job!
It's actually funny, that Blackmagic introduced Global Shutter years before Red and Sony with their Ursa 4K and Production 4K cameras, so it's ridiculous they stopped🤦🏼‍♂️

Thank you for the honest review. As a BMCC6K owner, I bought the camera for the reasons you have mentioned at the beginning of the video. I was aware of the drawbacks mentioned later. It is all down to your application, the way you use the camera and for what. I'm very happy with the camera and I would recommend it IF you want to achieve high image quality, colors and easy workflow.

I like your attitude! No bs talk. Honest and transparent. Excellent review btw.

You're absolutely correct, it's not the camera, it's the skill of the one whose hands it's in that matters. A better frying pan won't make you a better cook. This principle goes with any form of art. Werner Herzog said the same thing... watch good movies! Study the greats. That's what makes a good cinematographer. Not the camera just by itself.

Greetings from Melbourne!

Correction: RED has the most religious cult-like following.

Thanks for the honest review. Your review is actually the first ive seen where you've provided alternative cameras that are actually cheaper than the 6k Full Frame. I just bought this camera, and it's my first. So far I love it, but if I really can produce an image just as good for cheaper than maybe I should return it and re-evaluate my options.

Thanks for the candid and honest opinion. The lure of the camera is that colour fidelity, the gargantuan screen and the icing on the cake, the full frame recording. I've seen some beautiful anamorphic stuff from this camera, truly spectacular. However, what the great camera makers give with one hand, they take away with decent slow- mo. And you just know this stuff is really only round the corner. I am down 5 kidneys this year with gear I have bought, can I really afford to lose another? Oh, go on then :)

Amazing review, but i'm more amazed by your lighting setup for the talking head shots. Could you please make a video showing us the bts of your creating process? <3

I don't own the BMCC6K or any BM camera, I use Canon. However I've been really impressed with the image quality of BMCC6K footage posted on different channels. I've tried working with test clips of 12bit B-raw in Resolve. It's excellent quality, manageable file sizes and super easy to work with (in Resolve) and BM cameras probably have the best and easiest menu system. BMCC6K has a daylight viewable high quality display & the Studio version of DaVinci Resolve is included in the price. To me those factors are just as important or more so than IBIS or auto focus. I guess it depends on the type of work you do that determines the type of functionality you need. I'm very happy with my canon R5C but if I decide to invest in another camera it will be the BMCC6K.

Thank you for revealing the truth, and not a fanboy review, which is what we need!

Hey man. Enjoyed your video. Just got the camera in myself a few weeks ago and been putting out videos on the camera myself.

Just want to point out while there is no “horizon leveler” you do have Thirds crosshairs that you can turn on which have lines that go across the whole image and it adjusts as well based on the aspect ratio you engage.

Blackmagic user here. Every time I hear Blackmagic is putting out a "new" camera and it's just a different variation of the Pocket 6K, I just roll my eyes. The Pocket 4K and 6k were kings at their price point a few years ago but now cameras are coming out in that same range with better features and ergonomics. It's time for Blackmagic to step up their game and stop dissapointing me.

Dude thanks for this, I was considering getting this as a 2nd camera as I shoot anamorphic quite often and wanted open gate, but this convinced me to go for Lumix if anything.

Asking a lot from a $2500 camera is kinda crazy… Welcome to 2023 😂

Thanks for your thoroughly review. It's a weird camera, for sure. I bought it since I care mostly about image quality and I'm already invested in the L-Mount system, I wanted BRAW and didn't want the chunky combo of adding the visual assist to my S5. Somehow I think this camera is akin to the Sigma Quattro in photography, where you had a weird body camera, a dated interface, an overall slow system, very limited in functionalities with battery issues as well... but the quality image... that was "the reason" to get that camera, but I agree that it was not for everybody.

Regarding the reviewers that you accuse of not being neutral, I don't know if you're referring to Mateo or "Of Two Lands", but so far I think they're being pretty neutral, obviously not hiding that they like this camera (as flawed as it is).

Thanks again for the video! And I hope you keep posting footage of the 6K FF.

Cheers.

@BlackmagicDesign for the love of all camera gods, PLEASE listen to this crazy mortal and the many who are asking, Provide the market with a 'Dated' Blackmagic Designed FF Cinema product pricing it as you do well, Please!

Thank you sir for slapping me with THIS awakening content saving me a couple of hard earned grand, I almost bought my supposedly 1st BM Design product; not that it is bad but all makes sense from your gutsy review vs other commercial brands and old BMPCC out there right now.

Commenting on why Blackmagic doesn't have IBIS (And I LOVE IBIS) is because cinema cameras rely on external sources of stabilization, there are a couple inherit problems with ibis, namely lens flare elements reveal how shaky your footage originally was before its stabilized by the sensor, this can be very distracting. And the second point is, if you are doing any sort of VFX that requires complex tracking, you are making your life a LOT harder by using IBIS (Trust me I made that mistake). That being said, I love my Blackmagic camera along the Panasonic S5II, they compliment each other very well.

Really interesting and informative review. I agree that it would be nice if they used a global shutter. Funnily enough, Blackmagic have already used a global shutter in the Ursa Mini 4k (not 4.6k), back in 2015
