And like some have pointed out in the comments; I forgot to mention some other cool features like Open Gate, Gyro Stabilization, ... oh, and you get Resolve Studio for free. 😬 But again, doesn't mean this is the perfect camera for you or the best camera in the world... NOT AT ALL! I still think the FX3 is a better choice for most people... and there are plenty of other great cameras. Just use your brain, people (but not your TikTok-brain). 😎🔥

What everyone fails to mention about the design (even yourself) is that Blackmagic have included a fully functional live production camera inside. This includes support for a TV style zoom rocker and focus demand. This also explains why they put such a big screen on the back. TV camera ops don’t need a flippy screen. There’s no question the old-school DSLR vibe looks dated from an industrial design perspective. On the other hand they made sure the EVF and battery grip were compatible, which is not a bad thing. In the end, BM is not flashy in their approach. At the same time, when you compare this system to anything else capable of full frame 3:2 filming, I don’t think there’s anything else which comes close. A used Sony Venice (version 1) is still $20k and a monster to rig. Where the CC is a marvel of miniaturization by comparison.

Actually for a bit more than the cost of FX3, we can get two cameras: S5iix - BMCC full frame + free davinci studio + lenses that can be shared!

I put a 35mm Canon CNE lens on a BMCC6K in a DJI gimble and the shots are beautiful. Add in the Davinci work flow and it makes life easy. Yeah it doesn't have the low light range of the others but I doubt most people don't get close to actually using that in their projects.

The closest competition, at least in terms of price and image quality, is the Panasonic S5iiX, which a lot of people compare this camera to. But the internal RAW, large screen, Blackmagic workflow make it stands on its own.

I think my BlackMagic Cinema Pocket 4K, for the type of work we do and the intended delivery format, will still do its 'job' for years to come.

Thanks for the honest review and pointing out a lot of things other content creators seem to be obsessed with. Yes it’s not a vlogging camera it’s an affordable professional camera and teamed up with DaVinci resolve like it’s supposed to be you get an amazing combination!

You forgot to mention the star feature, OPEN GATE. It is a reframing option beast. Depending on your aapect ratio you can adjust for headroom, or do temporal reframe motion without losing resolution. The other star feature it is FULL FRAME, which is better in low light and it is ideal for anamorphic lenses. You use the open gate full frame to shoot anamorphic and you get better resolution than the BMPCC6K Pro using anamorphic. You might descrbe it as a great lateral option. I hope they produce a Ursa 12K with a full frame chip (PL & L). I can dream.

The key thing you said is that it is made to be a cinema camera. Something I would love to see in a future iteration would be able to shoot at least 60fps and maybe some help on that rolling shutter in open gate. I know gyro stabilization gets rid of a lot if not all, but then you have to think about cropping the image the entire time you're shooting. This will be a camera I will skip for now since I don't feel the need for full frame and I'm adding the Ursa Broadcast G2 to my Pocket 4K in the meantime since internal NDs and a 6K Ursa is what I've been more in the market for. As well as it being a good overall camera for events, docs and narrative work.

I would argue that for me (I bought this camera last week because it was $1020 off), this camera *is* an upgrade from my (original) bmpcc6k. I really miss the EF mount, but I'll get over that in the long term (despite the many very high end canon lenses I own), and I like the extra wide angle this made possible with the same (adapted) 16-35 lens I had mounted on the old camera. When I loaded the settings from the pocket 6k on this camera, everything just worked including my color corrections for the HDMI output for my ATEM mini extreme -- except that I needed to do some very minor menu diving to fill 16:9 instead of 3:2.

I mean once the video is released who cares if you have recorded it on a potato or ugly camera… It’s all about the image. No autofocus? No IBIS? No tilty-flippy screen? So what? Who will tell it once the film is screened that you have crafted with this tool? Good camera Joris! I would love to have this too

So almost a year later, i see there are still so many people "misunderstanding" this camera by trying to outfit it with every accessory under the sun (this doesn't make great content-brains/creativity makes great content-of course u know this LOL) in an effort to combat this mania about the wrong uses for the 6K Pro we also made a little short video recently because it was driving us nuts. The Blackmagic 6K Pro shines for what it looks like it was intended for and that is a very ergonomic handheld pro cinema camera, not a studio production beast which has now become slow to use because of of those ergonomic features are now covered up by cages/wiring etc etc. extra monitors etc etc. LOL. Run and gun style docs shooting high quality 6K with a vest full of spare batteries, not with a ginormous V mount sucker hanging off the back turning it into a "chunk" you can't hold. It just goes to prove there are many who think putting this in a cage is the way forward. Get the right camera for that. Plus as you say it's def not a camera for filming yourself making videos for YouTube.

Have you considered trying Kipon's EF-L speed booster with the 6k FF? Allows you to shoot 4k 60fps 17:9 with extra stop of light and better rolling shutter around 15ms while still maintaining FF coverage.

I have the original 6K with the Tilta screen mod and man that thing is a freaking joy to use.
All the footage looks great. Just simply incredible. Even out of focus shots look great. It is amazing. Looking at getting the internal speed booster so it will be very close to a full frame. Its smaller form factor makes it feel like a DSLR. I use no rig, there is a terabyte SSD on board, a spare battery in the pocket and a strap for support is all I need.
After using a Canon hybrid and running into countless operational confusions it is a dream to have a camera that puts everything you need exactly where you need it.
I FREAKIN LOVE IT.

I got mine, and it has Horizontal line noise. I believe it has Sensor issue. I had to send it back. Now I'm not sure if I should get another one!

I love this camera than any other mirrorless camera because of image quality. BRAW is the best for internal RAW recording in the 6K body. And BRAW internally is perfect for HDR Mastering than any of Sony cameras.
