Thank you so much! I'm a junior in college and this is the first time I've ever felt the need to calculate my grade before continuing with a class. Turns out a situation I thought I could fix would result in a failing grade, best case scenario. This was immensely helpful.

On May 25, 2018 I have a question regarding grades at the end of my college semester:
I'm taking this class, the teacher gives one grade score sometime in October 2017, then when May 2018 arrives and school ends all three bad grades start showing up, I had received a D, C, C. These grades showed up after we were never going to see the instructor again, so I could not speak to the teacher. What I did was appeal my final grade of (c) to the dean of the university, the dean said, the teacher would be called on the phone. The teacher responded this is what I earned. WOW!! TOTALLY blew me away, cause I was always submitting my assignments on time, and I attended all the presentations, and i'm filled with guilt, cause the teacher never said my grade was going down.

What if you have multiple homework, test, etc points, how do you calculate the final grade?

Ours were curved based on the mean and standard deviation of the class then they used a 4.0 scale instead of a 100% scale. Where the mean was a 3.0 and 1 standard deviation was worth about 1 grade point. So if you got 1 SD below the mean you’d get a 2.0 in the class. The overall class SD was never released throughout the quarter so it was impossible to know exactly where you stood in the class. It was horribly anxiety inducing.

I also had classes where the grading scale was never released to the students. So you didn’t know if with your 70% you were going to pass or fail because you had no idea if that 2.0 mark was at 70%, 72%, 75%? I kind of think some classes are in serious need of review so that there is some kind of visibility to the students as to how well they are doing in a given class. When asked about this some professors even said “I haven’t decided that yet” -_-
