If you just had a stroke and your arm is still Falccid or flimsy, this video might help you.

Immediately after stroke, your arm will be very weak and difficult to move. This stage is called flaccidity.
It is very crucial at this stage to start your therapy and rehabilitation immediately. In this video we will be using simple tools that you can find at home. We will be using a hairbrush and a back scratcher. We will be doing fast brushing and fast tapping to wake up and move your stroke arm.
We will start from the top to bottom.
The first area we need to work on will be your shoulder. We will brush your trapezius muscle if you can reach it but if not use your back scratcher. Brush or tap it for about 30 seconds. Then try to shrug your shoulders. Move both at the same time.
Next area we need to work on will be your shoulder blade muscles. This is where you will find your rotator cuff muscles which are weak. You’ll have subluxation or that space that you will see and feel at the top partnof your shoulder. To reach that the area, use your back scratcher tap your shoulder blade and muscles for 30 seconds. Next is to keep your elbow close to your body while moving your forearm towards and away from your belly. If you don’t feel any movement assist your arm in doing that movement.
After that, we will brush our deltoids. Will brush the front and the side part of our deltoid for 30 seconds she can reach the back as well do that. After doing so, move your shoulder forward and upward. Also try to move your arm Sideways.
Next area we need to work on will be your biceps. Brush or tap the belly of your biceps using your hairbrush for 30 seconds going up. Now try to bend your elbow or bring your hand to your mouth. This point it might be difficult so put your arm on the table and slide your forearm towards you. Next area we need to work on is your triceps. To reach that, place your arm on the table and tap the back of your arm for 30 seconds then move your arm away from you. In order to move your wrist, hand and fingers we need to tap your forearm. To close your hand, flex you wrist and close your fingers, we need to brush or tap the palm side of your forearm. After 30 seconds try to bend your wrist. Brush or tap again for 30 seconds then try closing your hand.
We also need to open and extend your wrist. To do that we need to brush the backside of our forearm for 30 seconds and then extend your wrist. Do that several times and assist your wrist if needed. To open your hand and extend your fingers, brush the backside of your forearm and your hand then try to open your hand and extend your fingers. Do not be discouraged. Your hand will need a lot of practice because of the complexity of the movements it has to do. Assist your hand and fingers in moving using your good or unaffected arm and hand.

Thank you Nathan for this exercise. I had stroke 3 1/2 years ago and my left arm is still very stiff. I am so glad that I found you. I have been using all of your videos to do my daily exercise. Hello Nathan! Thankyou for your video. I’m wondering about a client of mine who suffered his stroke last year. Other therapies were considered more important at the time. Can l still help him using these exercises now? Is there still a chance of some rehab? Or do l need to modify the exercises because of this? It’s for a flaccid arm.
