I was dragged to night clubs in three different cities in my 20s, and never enjoyed a single one. Sticky floors, zero conversation, undignified desperation in the way people were trying to show off for each other, the line outside, the pretence at being important enough for people to wait to get in, pay to get in, get approved or rejected by the door guy... just the whole thing always rubbed me the wrong way.

I like pubs and coffee shops and chill bars. Places where you can get some food as well as a drink, where you can hear people talk, and where there's something to do, like darts or pool or a pub quiz or karaoke or something.
