Big fat THANK YOU for that quick fix! The hint at 5:00 to uninstall the drivers, then physicaly disconnect, restart pc and after fully booting reconnect the controller solved the problem. Then the driver will be drawn by the device and is now fully functional.

Never had any trouble until today. Can't get ANY controller to work on Windows 10 anymore. None of these fixed my issue. I can pair it via bluetooth or hook it up with a USB and it will show up in "Devices and printers" as wireless controller but it's not actually recognizing it. Xbox X, Ps4 or Ps5 controller doesn't work. What happened?

Edit- Ended up having to reinstall Windows10 with the media creation tool from Microsoft. It gives you the option to keep all your apps and files, so it was actually really simple. Fixed my controller problem.

BRO! Cant thank you enough - was about to scrap my elite controller. Literally did everything - for whatever reason going into windows settings + controller + diagnostic settings pulled my controller back into normal behavior. Literally was glitching out so hard, spamming y and couldn't get profile light to turn on at all or change- I still dont understand it but your in depth guide is a GAME changer. Thank you very much. My controller stopped working out of the blue while I was playing a game. Going to the device manager to adjust the power saving feature for the USB ports fixed the problem.

This video was helpful my desktop has 4 USB port and 2 of them are 3.0, I couldn’t get my n64 usb controller working but after using the 2.0 port, it works like a charm

Having the 'correct' controller cable to connect from controller to PC is something that cannot be understated.
Most cables especially longer third party cables don't transfer data and work correctly for recognition and updating on PC and are simply 'charging' only cables.

You are a trooble shooting hero! My nintendo pro controller would suddenly disconnect while playing for about a minute and than reconnect again while it was plugged in. Disabling the powercuts to the USB ports and/or changing the USB power settings worked for me after I restarted my laptop. Thanks a lot!

My issue is that ANY xbox controller that i try to connect keeps giving me a "try connecting your device again" but my playstation controllers work fine with bluetooth. Do i need the dongle for xbox controllers? i thought it was just an option and not a necessity. Ive tried everything on this video and it still don't work :(
