Historical Tidbit: Sedevacantism Debate with SSPV Clergy and Indult Traditionalists (1990s)

This is an old video of a lively debate about issues pertaining to Sedevacantism, with a heavy emphasis on the 1983 Code of Canon Law and its controversial Canon 844 regarding the administration of the sacraments to non-Catholics outside the danger of death.

The participants are Bp. Clarence Kelly, Fr. William Jenkins (both Society of St. Pius V), Fr. Brian Harrison (OS), and Count Neri Capponi. The moderator is Fr. John Perricone.

It is estimated that this discussion took place around 1995 and was probably held in New York, United States.

The video has been formatted for better picture and sound quality. The source was a VHS tape.

Thank you for posting this. The anguish that has been laid on these men, all trying to follow The Truth, our Lord is palpable. Truly grateful for everyone involved here. Dearest Bp. Kelly, RIP.

Rev Harrison talks about JPII having to rely on the the advice of the nuncios...when Jorge Bergoglio was specifically singled out as not a good candidate for a bishop by the head of the Jesuits AND the nuncio. JPII specifically chose Bergoglio AGAINST that advice.

Is there any chance the missing part between parts at 1:59:04 can be obtained somehow?

Sedevacaniism is not a new religion, nor a denomination or sect, not even a solution to the current crisis. Rather it is a rational & logical conclusion based upon perennial catholic principles found in various documents e.g., Scripture, Apostolic Constitutions. Papal encyclicals, etc., Hopefully, we can look forward to more discussions like this which are sorely needed to clear up the mass confusion that currently reigns.

Thanks for re-publishing! This has matured well in the meantime.
Would be nice to interview the NO apologist here today.

Fr Harrison is so intimidated by Fr Jenkins, it’s so interesting seeing these original arguments. Team Jenkins, here!

2:26:55 "if [my parishioner's] souls are being endangered ... that is not my responsibility." sums up the novus ordo mindset.

I tried looking up Fr Brian Harrison's claim of Pius XII letting orientals receive the eucharist in WW2. I cannot find it in any of my Canon law Digest books. If this was real, it would 99% be in one of the volumes. Google advanced search was no help, but I didnt think it would do anything. If this was real, then it was a secret Indult and most likely had language where it would be saying that they are Catholics just not recieved officially into a parish or something like that.

The “non-theologian” seems to be completely blind as to what is occurring around him.

Opinionists agree in principle on one thing: the faith is negotiable.

Fr Harrison and Count Capponi say that most Bishops are in communion with John Paul II, as an argument against the sedevacantist position. Then about 5 minutes later, they're talking about the Arian heresy and Count Capponi says "the whole Church

At the very end, an extremely uncharitable speaker attacks Bp. Kelly and highjacks what was a truly charitable debate. So sad. Emotionally unbalanced people need mercy.

I remember having this discussion with my NO pastor. He pretty much said that the openness to Holy Communion for non-Catholics is universal in practice. In the spirit of "ecumenism" most pastors or bishops will not refuse it for any reason.

A lot of attacks on sedes, however you cannot deny the doubt we all have in out current hierarchy. I know that I do not trust the annulment that my ex wife obtained without my input in order to remarry.

THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING. Is Fr Perricone validly Ordained?

Quite interesting that Bp Kelly makes it a point to state that he is a Bishop. But he and Fr Jenkins refuse to acknowledge Bp Sanborn, Dolan, and other Thuc line bishops.

Bp. Kelly and Fr. Jenkins are True Catholics Dominus vobiscum. Dignum et justum est. Hebemus ad Dominum.
